The International Settlements Clerk supports the timely and accurate settlement of international securities transactions. The role includes monitoring trades across foreign markets, resolving settlement discrepancies, managing outstanding fails, and coordinating with custodians, counter parties, trading desks, and internal operations teams.
Key Responsibilities- Process and monitor international equity and fixed-income transactions from trade booking through final settlement.
- Review trade details, allocations, confirmations, and matching status to identify discrepancies before market deadlines.
- Verify standing settlement instructions, account details, settlement dates, currencies, and place of settlement.
- Coordinate settlement instructions and trade amendments with global custodians, subcustodians, clearing agents, and counter parties.
- Monitor securities availability and cash funding requirements; elevate shortfalls to the appropriate teams.
- Track unmatched, pending, and failed transactions throughout the day, prioritizing aged fails, significant exposures, and approaching market cutoffs.
- Investigate fail causes, including insufficient securities, funding shortages, incorrect instructions, late allocations, and booking errors.
- Follow up on outstanding fails, document corrective actions, and elevate unresolved items promptly.
- Monitor applicable settlement penalties, claims, and buy-in notices; support investigation and resolution.
- Reconcile securities positions, cash balances, and settlement activity against custodian and internal records.
- Maintain accurate fail reason codes, exception logs, and daily management reporting.
- Follow established procedures, approval requirements, and operational controls; identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce settlement risk.
- One to three years of securities operations, settlements, custody, or related experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of international securities settlement, delivery-versus-payment and free-of-payment transactions and flexibility to support international market hours and coverage requirements.(Euroclear, CREST, etc.)
- Experience with SWIFT settlement messaging, FIS Phase 3 is a plus.
