Poison Information Specialist

Overview

Answer telephone calls relating to known or suspected poisonings and then advise on treatment and /or triage of patient to appropriate level of care. Also participate in data collection/reporting efforts, public education programs, and research efforts.

• Required
  
  Education:
  
  High School Diploma or GED.
• Necessary
  
  Skills:
• Must be familiar with basic aspects of pharmacology, toxicology, and clinical patient management.
• Possess good organizational skills.
• Familiar with computer data entry and retrieval.
• Must be able to assess severity of exposures and placate victims and families.
• Must be able to educate, prioritize, triage and communicate effectively with general public and health care professionals.
• Preferred Licensure/
  
  Certifications:
  
  Licensure to practice nursing, pharmacy, medicine, or physician's assistant in the State of Florida.
• Required Experience:
  
  1-2 years clinical experience.
• Preferred Experience:
  
  Emergency Department or Critical Care experience preferred.
• Required Licensure/Certification:
  Sit for and pass the AAPCC specialist in poison information certification exam as soon as eligibility requirements are met. After three unsuccessful attempts, it will be grounds for termination.
