Tech EMT - Transport | EMS | PRN PRN Position
Under the direction of the Program Director/Manager and Medical Director, the Transport EMT is accountable for responding to all assigned transports in the most appropriate and efficient manner, providing high standards of patient care while ensuring a safe and hazard‑free environment. The Transport EMT is responsible for safe ground ambulance transport of patients, contributing to overall patient care in assessment, treatment, packaging, and transport.
This position interacts throughout the facility internally, with patients and their families externally, and requires excellent interpersonal skills for community outreach and education. The Transport EMT will also assist in the trauma center and emergency department when not actively involved in transport, and operates all hospital‑owned vehicles according to local and state standards.
Education:
High School Diploma or GED Preferred Education: Associate's degree Required Licensure/
Certifications:
- Florida EMT Certification
- BLS from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- 2 or more years of driving experience, insurable by the hospital’s business auto insurance carrier
- Valid Florida Driver’s License
- Completion of a Florida‑approved Emergency Vehicle Operations driving course (NAPD or EVOC) within 30 days of hire/transfer
- Within six months of hire or transfer:
Prehospital Trauma Life Support, Advanced Medical Life Support, FEMA IS 100, FEMA IS 200, Emergency Vehicle Operations Course, UF Health Jacksonville DECON training
Certifications:
National Registry EMT Required Experience: Less than 1 year of EMS or healthcare related field Preferred Experience: Over 2–3 years of field experience in an active 911 Emergency Medical Service or healthcare field Necessary

- Ability to learn and adapt to new equipment
- Ability to work in highly stressful situations
- Customer relations and organization skills
- Adherence to Hospital Policy and Florida Department of Emergency Medical Services guidelines in providing patient care
- Familiarity with Advanced Life Support patient care equipment
- Demonstrated knowledge of pathophysiology related to cardiac, pulmonary, renal, and neurological systems
- Functional understanding of communication equipment including telephone, radios, recording equipment (some knowledge of navigation terms desired)
