The Certified Recovery Peer Specialist (CRPS) is a contract position and provides peer support services; serves as a participant advocate; provides information and recovery support for participants enrolled in the Florida Self-Directed Care Program. The CRPS performs a wide range of tasks utilizing a team approach with the SDC Recovery Coach which will assist participants in regaining control over their own lives and over their own recovery process.

The CRPS will be a role model exhibiting competence in recovery and ongoing coping skills and is an individual who is stable in their own recovery from mental health or substance abuse.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • A high school diploma or GED
  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • Demonstrated proficiency in reading and writing
  • Has completed a training program approved by the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF)/FL Certification Board for Certified Recovery Peer Specialist
  • Has applied for and successfully passed the certification exam approved by the Florida Certification Board for Certified Recovery Peer Specialist (or within 6 months of hire)
  • Completes 10 hours of approved continuing education training per year as outlined by the Florida Certification Board for Recovery Certified Peer Specialist
  • Must abide by and agree to the Florida Certification Board’s Code of Ethical and Professional Conduct and Disciplinary Procedures for Certified Recovery Peer Specialists.

  • Has a personal belief in recovery for all persons served
  • Possess a willingness to share their own recovery experience as relevant to persons served
  • Flexibility to engage people based on their level of receptivity and individual needs
  • Ability to establish trusting relationship with Peers
  • Ability to establish and maintain personal boundaries.
  • Ability to pass a Florida Level II background screening
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening.
  • Will become WRAP trained within 6 months of hire
  • Must have reliable transportation and vehicle insurance
  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS

    • Acts as a team member with Recovery Coach and participant to successfully identify smart goals and identify steps to reach recovery goals.
    • Willingness to provide peer-recovery education as identified by the participant served
    • Assists peers with assessing their unique strengths and abilities
    • Helps peers with identifying, developing, and working towards recovery goals
    • Assists peers with developing self-advocacy skills
    • Helps peers identify and access appropriate professional resources
    • Provides education for team members regarding the recovery process and the role of a Certified Recovery Peer Specialist
    • Assists in developing and implementing LAP goals.
    • Participates in meetings and staffing as required.
    • Provides resources for clients and coaches on a recovery culture
    • Serves as a link to community resources, teaches and models client's self-advocacy, and acts as a community liaison/educator
    • Reports significant/major incidences
    • Adheres to data privacy practices/HIPAA/Confidentiality to both participant and participant records
    • Writes progress notes, and assists in summaries and discharges
    • Maintains required productivity
    • Assists participants in WRAP and identifying relapse prevention plans
    • Apply motivational Interviewing strategies to effectively engage service recipients
    • Facilitate Psycho-educational activities for groups and individuals
    • Participates in Quality Improvement activities and committee assignments as requested.
    • Promotes and encourages recovery based on SAMHSA’s Guiding Principles of Recovery support services in line with SAHSA Recovery Support Strategic Initiative which include the four major dimensions that support a life in recovery as follows;
      • Health - overcoming or managing one’s diseases or symptoms—for example, abstaining from the use of alcohol, illicit drugs, and non-prescribed medications if one has an addiction problem—and for everyone in recovery, making informed, health choices that support physical and emotional wellbeing.
      • Home – A stable and safe place to live.
      • Purpose – Meaningful daily activities, such as a job, school, volunteerism, family are taking or creative endeavors, and the independence, income and resources to participate in society and
      • Community – relationships and social networks that provide support, friendship, love and hope.
