Responsibilities- Verify patient information by interviewing patients and recording medical history.
- Confirm the purpose of the visit.
- Prepare patients for examination by performing preliminary physical tests (blood pressure, pulse, height, weight, temperature) and reporting a patient history summary.
- Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality; notify providers of pertinent patient information and follow‑up.
- Assist assigned clinicians with medical examinations and clinical procedures, including GYN exams, pap smears, suture removal, dressing changes, etc.
- Administer non‑controlled medications and injections, including vaccinations, as ordered.
- Perform rapid HIV testing as needed, including pre‑ and post‑test counseling.
- Perform venipuncture and laboratory processing, including completing requisitions and preparing specimens for lab delivery.
- Conduct basic laboratory tests (HIV rapid tests, finger‑stick glucose, hemoglobin, urine pregnancy test, rapid strep, urinalysis, GC/Chlamydia, etc.), review all lab work before sending to labs, and organize and maintain lab forms, scanning, and data entry of lab results.
- Perform quality assurance tests on CLIA waived laboratory tests.
- Maintain and update patient information in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Assist in the organization of clinic exam rooms, including cleaning, checking expiration dates on medical equipment, and stocking supplies; communicate inventory and equipment needs to staff.
- Assist in clinic management by keeping patient areas clean and safe; work with staff to manage patient visit cycle time.
- Provide patients with information and instructions.
$16 to $18 per hour depending on education and experience
Minimum RequirementsSuccessful completion of the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) exam offered by an appropriate accredited institute. Appropriate institutes include the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), the American Medical Technologists (AMT), the National Health career Association (NHA), and the American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA).
Preferred Qualifications- Prefer one year Medical Assistant experience.
- One year serving HIV/AIDS population.
