BB&E is a full‑service civil and environmental engineering and consulting firm headquartered in Northville, Michigan. The firm serves both the federal and industrial sectors across the United States and provides environmental consulting, facilities engineering, and program/project management services. BB&E seeks a dynamic, detail‑oriented Engineering Technical Writer/Document Translator to support the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) in the Caribbean and Jacksonville districts.
The role focuses on creating, editing, and translating complex technical documents and public‑outreach materials in English and Spanish for projects in Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and Florida.
- U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain/maintain a NACI/CAC.
- Strong understanding of engineering and construction terminology.
- Ability to produce accurate, error‑free documents under tight deadlines.
- Familiarity with cultural nuances and linguistic differences in Spanish‑speaking Caribbean regions.
- Knowledge of graphic design principles for document presentation (layout, typography) is preferred.
- Familiarity with project management tools such as Smartsheet or Trello is preferred.
- Experience developing bilingual training materials or user guides is preferred.
- Native or near‑native proficiency in both English and Spanish (written and spoken); exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills in both languages are required.
- Proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and tools such as Adobe Acrobat and translation software (e.g., SDL Trados, MemoQ).
- Highly motivated self‑starter with ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines autonomously.
- At least 5 years of professional experience in technical writing, document review, and translation for engineering or construction fields, demonstrating the ability to translate complex technical materials between English and Spanish.
- Experience working with USACE in a federal contracting environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in Technical Communication, Translation, Linguistics, Engineering, or a related field from an ABET‑accredited university.
- Ability to stand, walk, climb, kneel, and crouch; spend at least 60 % of time in a stationary position or seated.
- Ability to operate office equipment, including computer, copier, phone.
- Use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects; reach with hands and arms.
- Capable of lifting up to 10 lb.
- Visual acuity to see details at close range.
