Job Summary:

Provides technical support to field staff in the use/application of computer technology for the daily functional activities of their respective departments; acquires and maintains knowledge of computer hardware/software supported by the organization; answers questions, resolves complaints, repairs equipment, changes software configurations, installs new hardware and peripherals, and other duties to ensure requests for service are addressed in an efficient, timely and courteous manner;

may also design, code, and test computer programs to interface with specific products.

Responsibilities
  • Provides technical support and problem-solving assistance to all computer users via telephone or on-site visits; diagnoses problems to determine if it is within software, client application, or hardware; resolves problems accordingly.
  • Sets up and installs personal computers and peripheral equipment; builds and installs cable, connects hardware, tests hardware for proper operation, and installs software to recognize and utilize hardware; troubleshoots problems related to Windows, Office applications, and Internet interface.
  • Installs optional hardware and modifies software programs accordingly.
  • Installs and sets up various software applications and upgrades; tests installations to ensure proper functioning.
  • Prioritizes repair work to meet user needs; informs users of progress or status of repairs; responds in a courteous and tactful manner.
  • Disables computer and peripheral equipment when necessary to relocate or change layout of equipment.
  • Performs necessary data backups before troubleshooting or repairing computers.
  • Contacts manufacturers for updates on repair procedures; stays aware of technical advancements and upgrades.
  • Tests software, hardware, procedures, and documentation; provides recommendations regarding purchases of new software.
  • Develops custom software solutions meeting user and department requirements.
  • Maintains website and ensures it is functioning properly and available to users.
  • Maintains and supports client and intern networks by managing user accounts; updates login batch files; provides printer support and ensures printers are mapped and functional.
  • Maintains and supports multi-function network copiers, coordinates vendor support, and ensures network connectivity.
  • Maintains UPS protection of IT assets and replaces batteries as needed.
  • Re-images computer systems using disk imaging software and keeps file images updated.
  • Supports users in SharePoint and Teams for shared resources and collaboration.
  • Monitors, reports, and/or repairs wireless access points.
  • Maintains intercom system by troubleshooting, repairing or replacing components and cabling.
  • Documents all tasks performed using helpdesk software.
  • Maintains diagrams of network, telecommunications, and surveillance infrastructure.
  • Coordinates with DHQ and/or vendors for services not performed internally.
  • Researches and proposes technological solutions to exploit organizational opportunities.
  • Maintains IT and maintenance user portal by managing content.
  • Supports fleet communications by maintaining cell phones and GPS tracking capabilities.
  • Maintains and supports installed time clocks with daylight savings updates and integration with management software.
  • Ensures antivirus software is installed and up to date; removes malware as needed.
  • Ensures daily data backup procedures are carried out and takes corrective action when needed.
  • Trains users on software operation, including MS Office Suite and others as needed.
  • Labels network and phone ports throughout the organization’s facilities.
  • Maintains accurate inventory of IT assets (computers, monitors, printers, copiers, scanners, faxes, cell phones, telephones, cameras, UPS, time clocks, projectors, tablets, switches, routers, access points, firewalls, servers, NAS devices, and other assets).
  • Maintains access control lists for copy/print/scan/fax on multi-function copiers and keeps address books up to date.
  • Troubleshoots and corrects network connectivity issues.
  • Coordinates toner supply for printers, copiers, and fax systems; orders toner, delivers and installs toner, and maintains toner inventory.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of computer and peripheral device capabilities.
  • Operational and application knowledge of databases and Windows, Internet, DOS, and macOS environments.
  • Knowledge of evaluating product applicability to functional areas.
  • In-depth knowledge of operating systems used by the Information Technology Department to train users.
  • Proficiency in web technologies: HTML, ASP, .NET, CSS, PHP, JavaScript, XML, and related standards.
  • Knowledge of effective presentation skills.
  • Ability to determine how computer products address functional needs.
