Senior Data Modeler

Location: Remote | Must work Eastern Time (ET) hours

Employment Type: Contract

We're seeking a highly experienced, hands-on Senior Data Modeler to lead the design of scalable, well-structured data models for a modern enterprise data environment.

This is a dedicated data modeling role, not a data engineering or data architecture position. We're looking for someone whose primary expertise and professional focus is data modeling, with the ability to translate complex business requirements into effective conceptual, logical, and physical models.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own end-to-end conceptual, logical, and physical data modeling.
  • Design relational (3NF) and dimensional/star schema models for enterprise data environments.
  • Develop data models aligned with Medallion Architecture (Bronze/Silver/Gold).
  • Define entity relationships, primary and foreign keys, referential integrity, and business rules.
  • Partner directly with clients and business stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into detailed, documented data models.
  • Collaborate with technical teams to ensure models are scalable, maintainable, and aligned with business needs.
Required Qualifications
  • Extensive hands-on experience as a dedicated Data Modeler, with deep expertise in relational and dimensional modeling.
  • Strong command of data modeling methodologies, normalization, 3NF, star schemas, and entity relationships.
  • Experience modeling within Medallion Architecture on modern cloud data platforms.
  • Proficiency with data modeling tools such as ER/Studio, Erwin, or SQLDBM.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently lead data modeling initiatives from requirements through completed designs.
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proven experience working directly with clients in a consulting or client-facing capacity.
  • Availability to work Eastern Time business hours.
Nice to Have
  • Experience with Databricks and Delta Lake.
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure.

Important: We're specifically seeking a data modeling specialist whose career has centered on hands-on data modeling, rather than a Data Engineer or Data Architect who performs modeling as one component of a broader role.
