Legal Secretary, Litigation
The ideal candidate will have 3+ years of complex insurance defense litigation experience and knowledge of both Federal and State Rules. Medical negligence, aging services, and general liability matters experience preferred.
Additional requirements include but are not limited to: excellent verbal and written communication skills; understanding of legal language and principles, research methods, court pleadings and processes; excellent organizational skills with attention to detail; excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines; strong analytical and problem solving skills; ability to function well in a high‑paced environment; and initiative to complete daily tasks.
Key ResponsibilitiesSpecific responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:
- Assist attorney(s) in complex state and federal cases from initial pleadings through trial.
- Perform initial case assessments to determine further document discovery to facilitate initial investigation of claim.
- Draft pleadings, scheduling orders, and motions for state and federal court.
- Draft discovery requests and responses to include the preparation of voluminous records for production and drafting of privilege logs.
- Interpret and summarize medical records and bills.
- Prepare subpoenas for records.
- Effectively communicate with experts, insurance adjusters, witnesses, clients, and opposing counsel.
- Schedule meetings, depositions, and mediations.
- Assist with jury selection and witness preparation for trial.
- Meet a billing requirement of 140 hours per month.
- Assist with preparation of trial notebooks and exhibits.
3+ years of complex insurance defense litigation experience and knowledge of both Federal and State Rules. Medical negligence, aging services, and general liability matters experience preferred.
Education:
Bachelors or better.
Experience:
Litigation > 3 years.
Licenses &
Certifications:
Certified Paralegal (preferred).
