Position Summary
Job Title: CNC Machinist A
Exempt or Non-Exempt: Non-Exempt
Responsibilities- Set up and operate two or more production CNC machines, including Okuma multi-axis lathes, Okuma mills, and HAAS 5-axis mills, working from blueprints, sketches, and route sheets.
- Contribute to lean initiatives to increase productivity and reduce costs. Work with general guidance in a team environment.
- Perform machine operations (including reworking parts) such as cutting, shaping, deburring, forming, drilling, and reaming where materials, tooling, and sequence are pre-planned and established. Make necessary machine adjustments and report improper functioning or cutting action for correction.
- Perform operations such as tapping, spot-facing, chamfering, countersinking, and counterboring to close tolerances.
- Align and fasten parts using standard fixtures.
- Adjust feeds, speeds, and depth of cut to machine quality parts per documentation.
- Remove burrs, sharp edges, tool marks, or other irregularities from machined parts.
- Inspect parts for conformance to specifications using measuring instruments, gauges, and comparators; visually inspect parts for burrs and damaged surfaces.
- Routinely maintain equipment to ensure cleanliness, accuracy, and reliability as required by the division.
- Accurately perform all statistical process control (SPC) as specified by division requirements.
- Actively participate in lean initiatives by identifying areas for improvement and applying lean concepts and tools in the work area.
- Observe all company policies and safety rules and maintain a clean and orderly work area.
High school diploma or equivalent required. Two years related machining experience required. Okuma, Haas mill, lathe experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities- Able to read and follow blueprints, specifications, and verbal instructions.
- Working knowledge of shop mathematics, including possibly trigonometry.
- Ability to apply lean initiatives effectively.
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills; able to work in a team environment.
- Ability to interpret reports and use job-specific software; able to use employee self-service systems and specialized automated systems (e.g., PMR, TORS, e-mail).
- Demonstrates team competencies and participates in goal setting, performance feedback, and self-development activities.
Walk, stand, and sit for extended periods; manual dexterity to operate machinery; close vision; regular attendance; ability to lift up to 50 lbs; ability to work cooperatively and professionally with others.
