Are you searching for a position where you can make a difference in the lives of animals and our community? Does the idea of connecting pets with loving families warm your heart? Then our Adoption Counselor position might be the perfect role for you! This position isn’t for everyone. It can be loud, messy, and sometimes stressful. But if you find joy in helping people and customer service comes naturally to you, this might be the most fulfilling job you’ve ever had!
A Day in the Life of an Adoption CounselorOur JHS Adoption team aims to create a relationship between the community and the rest of our shelter. We use a dynamic, open adoption process that removes barriers to adoption, making the goal of giving homeless pets a loving home a collaborative effort.
The bulk of the day will be speaking to the public and helping customers find their new best friend (including pet‑to‑pet introductions). Our team collaborates with other shelter teams to ensure animals are happy and healthy before going home with their new families. We work with volunteers at the front desk to answer questions about shelter pets, the adoption process, and other questions about our organization.
Our team also assists with off‑site cat transports to Pet Smart for our adoption events.
We offer short‑term foster programs to help potential adopters determine if the pet is the right fit. We learn and grow through teamwork and help abandoned and orphaned shelter pets find a loving home.
