Security Park Ranger (Part-Time)

Are you a team player with some experience in the security, safety, and/or the ranger field? As a Security Park Ranger at Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens, you’ll protect and support 100+ acres of lush gardens and over 1,400 rare and exotic animals while ensuring a safe and secure environment for our operations. Our Zoo is open rain or shine, 363 days a year, to experience our lush gardens and wildlife.

This active, on‑your‑feet role averages over 10,000 steps and places you at the heart of critical operations, from emergency response and crowd control to first aid.

• High School diploma or equivalent?
• Satisfactory status in an unpaid or paid position within Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens?
• Completion of a satisfactory relevant internship within the organization, relevant experience, and/or college coursework?
• Six (6) months’ experience in the security/ranger or similar field?
• A valid Florida Driver’s license with clear driving record?
• Ability to meet the physical requirements and remain on your feet throughout a 6 to 8-hour shift?
• Ability to commit to a high level of integrity, professionalism, and honesty?
• Ability to remain calm and composed in stressful situations?
• Availability to work outside regular hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays?
• Working knowledge of general first aid, CPR, and the use of AED equipment to become certified within 90 days of employment?
• Working knowledge of Microsoft office related software products and willingness to learn other computer software programs to complete job duties?

• Ability to consistently remain on feet for prolonged periods of time.
• Manual dexterity for standing, reaching, flexibility, and body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling, stoop, bend, lift, kneel, crawl, climb, jump, dig and prolonged standing.
• Grasp, turn, and manipulate objects of varying size and weight, requiring fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.
• Ability to operate motorized cart, trucks, hand and/or power tools.
• Auditory ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone, telephone systems, two-way radio, and face‑to‑face interactions.
• Ability to work outdoors and indoors under all environmental conditions and temperatures.
• Ability to transport and move items occasionally for short distances up to 50 pounds without difficulty.
• Ability to ascend/ descend ladders, steps, and uneven terrain, while maintaining body equilibrium while performing various jobs.
• Ability to access and navigate each department at the organization on foot, including any construction sites.
• Visual and auditory acuity appropriate for safety and discern differences in documents.
• Exceptional visual acuity is required, along with the ability to communicate, comprehend and decipher/hear information accurately, using a two-way radio.
