Established in the Blue Ridge foothills of North Carolina in 1963, Leonard Buildings and Truck Accessories is a manufacturer and distributor whose product lines include storage buildings, cargo and utility trailers, truck covers, truck and van accessories, carports, playhouses, chicken coops, and dog houses. Job SummaryThe Floating Installation Technician position has operations in the U.S. and has overall responsibility for supporting multiple Leonard store locations by providing skilled installation services, site preparation, delivery setup, and adjustments to ensure customer satisfaction and compliance with company standards. This position reports directly to the District Manager and does not have direct reports.
Job Responsibilities- Travels to various Leonard locations to assist with installations trailers and truck accessories.
- Prepares installation sites by measuring, inspecting, and ensuring proper placement and safety clearances.
- Installs aftermarket truck accessories including bed liners, hitches, toolboxes, steps, and lighting systems according to manufacturer and company standards.
- Operates delivery vehicles and trailers safely and responsibly to transport products.
- Performs routine maintenance on equipment and tools to ensure readiness for each job.
- Troubleshoots and resolves installation or delivery challenges to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Provides on-site technical guidance and support to local teams as needed.
- Conducts quality checks before, during, and after installation to verify standards and specifications are met.
- Maintains accurate records of installations, service issues, and completed work orders.
- Follows safety protocols at all times to protect self, team members, customers, and property.
- Maintains a clean, organized, and safe working environment.
- Interfaces professionally with customers to answer questions, resolve issues, and ensure a positive installation experience.
- Supports training of store-based team members on installation procedures and best practices.
- Performs other duties as assigned to support store operations.
- Works on 12 volt, light bars, wiring, and strobe lights.
- Strong mechanical, carpentry, and installation skills
- Knowledge of building structures, site leveling, and truck accessories
- Excellent driving record and safe vehicle operation
- Proven ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve installation challenges
- Outstanding communication and customer service skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Flexibility to travel and adapt to changing locations and customer needs
- High attention to detail, accuracy, and quality
- Strong time management and organizational skills
- Ability to maintain professionalism under pressure
- Must PASS a background and a drug test
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Certification in installation or technical trades preferred
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in building installation, construction, or automotive accessory installation
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record (CDL preferred but not required)
- Forklift certification is a plus
This position requires traveling between Leonard locations with occasional overnight travel.
