Description
The Jacksonville Aviation Authority (JAA) welcomes applicants for the role of Facilities Electrician III at Jacksonville International Airport.
JOB SUMMARY
This is skilled craft work involving installation, operation, maintenance, overhaul, and repair of electrical systems for JAA.
- The work requires journeyman-level knowledge of applicable codes, techniques, methods, and procedures used in electrical systems installation, operation, maintenance, overhaul, and repair, including switch gear, breakers, busways, motor control panels, and electrical systems in facilities, buildings, grounds, and equipment.
- Uses and maintains various electrical and electronic equipment.
- The work is semi-routine, with tasks guided by procedures and precedents, but some discretion is allowed for selecting methods and techniques.
- Requires judgment in troubleshooting and applying solutions to different situations.
- Primarily performed outdoors, with known, predictable risks and hazards.
- Operates computers, hand tools, motor vehicles, and high-lift equipment.
- Work is reviewed for technical accuracy and compliance.
- Develops contact with internal teams and external vendors for information exchange.
- May require emergency call-in 24/7 based on airport needs.
- May involve shift work and rotational schedules.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions
- Coordinates and performs inspections, repairs, and preventive maintenance on high-voltage equipment at JAA facilities, including airfield systems.
- Coordinates electrical substation operations and maintenance.
- Maintains airfield lighting control systems and fiber optic networks.
- Inspects and repairs airfield lighting, visual aids, electrical motors, and distribution systems.
- Operates radio communications equipment for airfield operations.
- Uses work order systems for maintenance tasks.
- Assists in meter reading and analysis for electrical systems.
- Maintains emergency generators and vehicle radios.
- Supports the electrical maintenance of airfield lighting and other equipment.
- Participates in power outage coordination and special event lighting.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Electrical Journeyman Certification in Duval County.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- 4-6 years of progressive industrial electrical experience.
Skills
Preferred Education & Experience
- Experience in airfield lighting construction.
- Fiber optics experience desirable.
- Experience operating high-voltage switch gear up to 26KV.
- Class B commercial driver’s license preferred.
Licenses & Certifications
- Ability to maintain a SIDA badge.
- Florida Class E Driver’s License required;
Class B license or ability to obtain within a year preferred.
Physical Demands
- Fieldwork involving moving, sitting, standing, and lifting objects up to 50 pounds.
