Job purpose

The Fitness Attendant is responsible for ensuring a clean, safe, and welcoming environment within the fitness center. This role involves maintaining the facility’s cleanliness, assisting members with equipment and fitness-related questions, and supporting overall operations to uphold club standards.

Duties and responsibilities
  • Maintain a safe workout environment by actively circulating the weight and cardio areas.
  • Greets members and guests and answers phone calls.
  • Assist members and guests with proper use of equipment, including answering basic fitness questions and demonstrating correct techniques.
  • Guide members and guests through introductory training sessions, covering flexibility, aerobic conditioning, and strength training.
  • Monitor the fitness center and provide excellent customer service by answering questions and offering support.
  • Manage the fitness desk, including checking out equipment and maintaining sign-out records.
  • Perform daily opening and closing duties of fitness center.
  • Ensure the fitness floor is clean and organized - return all weights, benches, and equipment to their proper places.
  • Distribute towels and maintain overall tidiness of the fitness facility.
  • Enforce all facility policies and procedures, such as proper dress code for all users.
  • Wear the appropriate uniform and be ready to work at the start of the shift.
  • Execute emergency procedures and report all incidents involving injuries, safety issues, theft, or damaged equipment to management.
  • Attend scheduled staff meetings and complete all required trainings.
  • Communicate effectively with and complete tasks assigned by management.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications

High School diploma; one year of relevant experience required.

Basic knowledge of fitness equipment, exercise techniques, and safety standards.

Strong communication and customer service skills.

Must be able to work a flexible schedule including weekends and mornings.

Regular and reliable attendance.

Working conditions

Work is primarily indoors. Potential exposure to sharp and rapid equipment movement, sharp utensils, harmful chemicals and/or exposure to flying golf balls.

Physical requirements

Good organizational and verbal skills. Ability to use logical and rational thinking to resolve issues. Ability to perform basic mathematical skills, monitors and develops subordinates, visually monitor the operation areas, write and read member communication.

Must have the ability to perform moderate physical work and may be required to lift up to 40 lbs. frequently and up to 30 lbs. constantly. Perform activities such as bending, kneeling, crouching, climbing, reaching, standing, pushing, lifting and grasping for up to 5 hours without sitting. Ability to consistently lift, carry and load adaptive and other sports equipment that may weigh 50 or more pounds, and sustain aerobic activity for 20 consecutive minutes.

Please be advised that all work that requires the use of a ladder more than 8 ft. long must be reviewed by Hampton Golf’s Club Maintenance person. Following an assessment of the situation, a determination will be made as to whether a maintenance team member or subcontractors will perform the necessary maintenance task. No other staff member is authorized to climb to heights exceeding 8 ft.
