Bridge Block Operator

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Open and close the bridge as needed, clearing signals for train passage.
- Maintain a record of the date and time the bridge is called for rail traffic, boat traffic, and proper identification of such traffic, including the exact times the bridge is down or up and the time traffic passes and clears.
- Communicate with the FEC Yardmaster.
- Communicate with marine traffic.
- Communicate with the US Coast Guard.
- Complete the annual FEC Bridge Block Operator’s rules class and test, achieving a passing score.

This position is subject to random drug & alcohol testing.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCEHigh school diploma or general education degree (GED).
LANGUAGE SKILLS- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak to marine traffic and US Coast Guard via marine radio, as required.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
REASONING ABILITYAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
