The HVAC Preventative Maintenance Helpers on the Camp Lejeune team come from areas of eastern North Carolina including Jacksonville, Richlands, Swansboro, and Morehead City.
Performing preventive maintenance on various types of commercial HVAC equipment to ensure that machines continue to run smoothly is the primary responsibility of the Preventive Maintenance Helper. Types of equipment include air handlers and VAV systems. You may also assist workers and journeymen by performing general duties of lesser skill, such as supplying them with materials and tools, holding materials and tools, and cleaning the working area, machines, or equipment.
The ideal EMI HVAC Helper performs any task as instructed while following all health and safety standards.
Salary
$22.52/hr plus $14.75 fringe benefits used toward insurance and 401(k).
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect motors, pulleys, and belts; check fluid levels; replace filters; or perform other maintenance actions following checklists.
- Clean or lubricate shafts, bearings, gears, or other parts of machinery.
- Dismantle devices to access and remove defective parts, then repair or replace parts and reassemble equipment.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Essential Skills
- Some knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in heating and cooling equipment and machinery.
- Works effectively in a team.
- Follows verbal instructions and adheres to policies and procedures.
- Adaptable and flexible in work situations.
- Prioritizes tasks to ensure completion in a timely manner.
- Practices workplace safety in the use of tools, equipment, and supplies used in repair of HVAC equipment, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 1+ years related experience and/or formal vocational/technical training in a variety of building and/or utility trades.
- Valid driver's license compliant with the REAL or willingness to obtain one.
- Pass a pre‑employment drug screening and background check.
- Regular, dependable attendance.
- OVERTIME – available evenings & weekends.
- U.S. citizenship to obtain and maintain access to military installations.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs unassisted.
- Use of hands, reaching with hands and arms, talking, and walking.
- Prolonged periods of sitting, bending, squatting, standing, twisting, or stooping.
- Climbing ladders and entering confined spaces.
- Lifting and adjusting heavy objects, contact with sharp, hot and/or very cold supplies and equipment.
- Work both indoors and outdoors in various temperatures (some extreme) and weather conditions.

Preferred Qualification
- Highly prefer someone with basic knowledge of HVAC refrigeration and/or systems.
- CFC license or ability to obtain a CFC license (minimum Type
2) within 90 days of employment.
