About usSmith Berlin (PT Recta Via Hominis) is a Jakarta-based smart-casual apparel brand. We started in menswear and are now expanding into womenswear and opening our first physical store. We re at a growth stage where a designer s decisions directly shape the product and the direction of the brand, not just execute someone else s vision. If you want to help build something rather than maintain it, this is that kind of place.
Aboutthe role
We re looking for a Fashion Designer to own seasonal collections end to end, from concept and tech pack through sampling to production. You ll work directly with the founder and the production team, with real influence over what we make and how the brand evolves as we scale into womenswear. This isn t a role where you design in a vacuum and hand off.
You ll see your work through to the shop floor and the sell-through numbers.
Develop original designs and concepts for seasonal collections, balancing current trends, customer preferences, brand identity, and commercial viability
Create detailed sketches, mood boards, and design specifications using digital and traditional tools
Build complete tech packs and spec sheets (measurements, construction, fabric and trim specs) that pattern makers and vendors can produce from without guesswork
Research fabrics, textiles, colours, and trims to inform design and hit quality and cost targets
Collaborate with pattern makers, product developers, and manufacturing teams to translate designs into finished garments
Drive the sampling process: review fits, give clear feedback, and iterate to the right aesthetic and fit
Adjust designs when needed to solve production problems or hit cost targets, without losing the design intent
Monitor production quality to ensure garments are made to spec and on brand
Analyse market trends, competitors, and customer feedback to spot opportunities for new product
Keep design documentation organised and stay current on fashion and production methods
Contribute to a consistent brand aesthetic across all product lines
What we re looking forDegree or diploma in Fashion Design, Textile Design, or a related field
Minimum 3 years professional experience as a Fashion Designer in apparel or textiles
Strong proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop (or equivalent design and CAD tools)
Excellent drawing and sketching, with a solid grasp of garment construction and fit
Working knowledge of fabrics, production techniques, and manufacturing processes, enough to design for real-world producibility, not just the sketch
Proven ability to create original designs that sell. You understand commercial viability, not just aesthetics
Good sense of fashion trends and contemporary design, especially in the smart-casual and ready-to-wear space
Clear communicator who collaborates well across design, production, and management
Comfortable managing multiple styles and tight deadlines at pace
Portfolio required specifically want to see production-ready, commercial work, not only editorial or concept pieces
Preferred: experience designing womenswear, or moving a brand into a new category.
What we offerReal ownership. You ll design collections start to finish and own the outcome, not polish one hero piece for a month
Direct line to decision-makers. Work with the founder, fast decisions, minimal bureaucracy
Grow with the brand. As we expand into womenswear and open retail, the role grows with the business, not a seniority queue
