Business Development Manager – Geophysical Services
Role Overview :Our client is seeking a commercially driven Business Development Manager with a strong understanding of geophysical survey services, offshore projects, marine data acquisition, and technical client requirements.
This role is ideal for someone who can engage confidently with clients, understand geophysical terminology, interpret project requirements, and support the sales process from lead generation through to proposal development and client relationship management.
The successful candidate must understand what a Geophysicist does, the purpose of geophysical surveys, and the typical services required by clients in offshore, subsea, renewables, oil & gas, marine infrastructure, and coastal engineering projects.
Key Responsibilities:Business Development & Client Engagement
- Identify and develop new business opportunities within geophysical, hydrographic, offshore survey, subsea, renewables, oil & gas, marine construction, and related sectors.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, operators, contractors, consultants, and project stakeholders.
- Understand client requirements and translate them into suitable geophysical or survey service offerings.
- Support client meetings, presentations, proposal discussions, and technical-commercial clarifications.
- Maintain a strong market presence and represent the company professionally at industry events, client meetings, and networking opportunities.
- Understand and communicate the value of geophysical survey services, including seabed mapping, sub-bottom profiling, magnetometer surveys, side scan sonar, multibeam echo sounder data, seismic data, UXO-related survey support, cable route surveys, pipeline route surveys, and site investigations.
- Work closely with internal technical teams, Geophysicists, Project Managers, Surveyors, and Operations teams to prepare accurate proposals and solutions.
- Assist in reviewing tender documents, scopes of work, technical specifications, and client requirements.
- Help prepare quotations, commercial proposals, pre-qualification documents, and tender submissions.
- Ensure that commercial proposals are aligned with project scope, technical deliverables, resource requirements, vessel requirements, timeline, and risk considerations.
- Develop and maintain a pipeline of potential clients, upcoming projects, and tender opportunities.
- Track competitor activity, market trends, and client demand within the geophysical and offshore survey market.
- Maintain accurate records of client interactions, opportunities, quotations, and follow-up actions.
- Support strategic account planning for key clients.
- Work towards revenue targets, sales KPIs, and business growth objectives.
- Experience in business development, sales, client management, technical sales, or commercial support within the offshore, marine survey, subsea, geophysical, hydrographic, oil & gas, renewables, or marine construction industry.
- Good understanding of geophysical survey terminology and the role of Geophysicists in project delivery.
- Ability to understand technical scopes of work and communicate them clearly to clients and internal teams.
- Experience supporting tenders, proposals, quotations, or commercial submissions.
- Strong network within offshore, marine, energy, renewables, subsea, or infrastructure sectors would be highly advantageous.

- Cable route and pipeline route surveys
- Offshore site investigation
- Survey vessels, equipment, mobilisation, data acquisition, processing, interpretation, and reporting
- Strong commercial awareness and client-facing confidence.
- Ability to speak credibly with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
- Ability to understand technical information and convert it into a clear commercial proposal.
- Self-motivated, proactive, and comfortable developing new business.
- Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple opportunities at once.
- Good written English for emails, proposals, and tender submissions.
- Previous experience in a geophysical, hydrographic, offshore survey, subsea, oil & gas, renewables, or marine consultancy environment.
- Technical background in geophysics, geology, hydrography, marine science, offshore engineering, or related discipline would be advantageous.
- Existing client network within offshore energy, subsea construction, renewables, marine infrastructure, or survey markets.
- Degree or diploma in Geophysics, Geology, Marine Science, Hydrography, Surveying, Engineering, Business, or a related discipline is preferred.
