Senior Geomodeller Role Overview
The Senior Geomodeller for Geothermal – Geothermal Project is responsible for developing, interpreting, and integrating 3D geological models in support the entire geothermal project lifecycle from early-stage exploration through appraisal, development, and field management. This role integrates multidisciplinary geoscience and engineering datasets to optimize resource definition, guide drilling and well placement, and mitigate subsurface risks throughout the project.
Key Responsibilities- Integrate and interpret geological, geophysical, geochemical, and drilling data to create and maintain structural and reservoir models across the exploration and development phases.
- Evaluate subsurface conditions (heat source, aquifers, faults/fractures, cap rocks), delineate reservoir extents, and quantify resource potential.
- Support exploration and appraisal drilling strategies, well targeting, and placement by collaborating with geologists, geophysicists, and reservoir engineers.
- Integrate diverse datasets (resource understanding, well data, surface mapping, remote sensing) to improve geothermal guide and update models as new data become available throughout drilling and field development, ensuring models reflect latest understanding of reservoir behaviour, boundaries, and properties.
- Work closely with geologists, geophysicists, reservoir engineers, and drilling teams to design exploration drilling programs and optimize well placement.
- Conduct uncertainty and risk analysis relating to reservoir continuity and main aspects; prepare and deliver high drilling targets, quality technical presentations, reports, maps, and visualizations for internal and external stakeholders.
- Contribute to cross‑functional project teams, supporting well planning, reservoir management, and production optimisation.
- Mentor and supervise junior geomodellers or geoscience staff.
- Stay updated on latest geomodelling and geothermal best practices and software tools.
- MSc or PhD in Geology, Geosciences, or a related field.
- 8 years’ experience in 3D geomodeling or field development.
- Proficient in industry geomodelling, with a proven track record in geothermal exploration using standard geomodelling software (e.g., Petrel, Leapfrog, GOCAD).
- Strong background in subsurface integration, reservoir characterisation, and uncertainty quantification.
- Excellent spatial analysis skills and ability to communicate complex geological ideas to multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience with geothermal systems (especially for hydrothermal geothermal).
- Strong teamwork, project management, and mentoring skills.
- Familiarity with geothermal project development workflows and risk assessment.
- Experience in Southeast Asia or similar geothermal provinces.
