Writer-Director

We are looking for a Writer-Director to develop character-driven, long-form content for an esports project.

This role is responsible for discovering meaningful stories from players, teams, competitions, and gaming communities, then developing those stories into clear and executable video productions through research, writing, interviewing, scripting, and on-site direction. The candidate is expected to understand both long-form and short-form platforms.

A strong esports background is not required.

• Research players, teams and communities to dig out vivid characters, conflicts and storylines
• Create long-form concepts: player docs, team profiles, competition journeys, BTS and human-interest features
• Draft treatments, scripts, interview guides, voiceover texts and shooting briefs
• Design and lead in-depth interviews to draw authentic personal stories from talents
• Turn creative concepts into feasible production plans, list required footage, locations and archive resources
• Deliver on-set creative direction and collaborate with cinematographers for narrative-driven visuals
• Cooperate with editors on story structure, pacing, emotion and final cut
• Review rough cuts and give targeted feedback on storyline, character and rhythm
• Extract short-video clips for Tik Tok/Reels/Shorts from long-form footage
• Adjust production plans flexibly based on matches, talent availability and platform demands

• Strong writing ability in scripts, interviews, narration, copy, and story structure.
• Strong understanding of long-form, character-driven storytelling;
  Understanding of short-form content formats, audience behavior, and platform trends.
• Ability to find meaningful stories from real people and real events.
• Strong interviewing ability and an understanding of how to ask follow-up questions.
• Ability to turn broad ideas into clear creative briefs and executable production plans.
• Strong observation skills and sensitivity to personality, emotion, relationships, and conflict.
• Comfortable working on-site and adapting to changing access, schedules, and live events.
• Able to communicate clearly with cinematographers, editors, production staff, and external partners.
• Strong responsibility for the final quality of each assigned content project.

• Ability to direct, shoot, or edit.
• Experience directing interviews, documentaries, reality content, or small production crews.
• Experience in esports, sports, gaming, youth culture, or competitive entertainment.
• Strong personal judgment in visuals, music, pacing, and character-driven storytelling.
