Job Overview

This Project Scientist opportunity is for a flexible and self‑motivated individual that is willing to learn and grow as part of a team while providing environmental assessment expertise to projects within the Sediment and Risk Assessment (SRA) and Remediation (REM) service lines at EHS Support. As a Project Scientist, you will be joining a high‑performance team of risk assessors, toxicologists, ecologists, scientists, and engineers that is focused on providing high‑quality technical and strategic solutions to a variety of clients.

Your primary responsibilities in the Project Scientist position will include managing and leading multi‑media environmental investigations for routine and complex scenarios under federal and state programs. You will also be responsible for managing a team of talented professionals and providing mentorship to junior team members.

Responsibilities
  • Manage routine to complex projects with strict adherence to schedule, budget, and quality.
  • Plan and lead field‑based investigations of multiple environmental media (e.g., surface water, sediment, pore water, soil, and biological communities/tissue) in various aquatic and terrestrial systems.
  • Ensure field programs are conducted in accordance with investigation work plans, data quality objectives, and standard operating procedures.
  • Lead analysis of environmental data in support of investigation objectives using Microsoft Excel and statistical software (e.g., R).
  • Prepare high‑quality technical deliverables and presentations for effective communication of investigation findings.
  • Support development of ecological risk assessments under federal and state regulatory programs, including Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) and Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA).
  • Mentor and upskill junior team members.
Specific Experience and Skills
  • 8+ years of experience in consulting.
  • Commitment to a behavior‑based safety culture.
  • Proven field leadership skills, with experience in mentoring and developing staff.
  • Strong knowledge of field instrumentation and monitoring equipment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Familiarity with regulations and guidance for remedial investigation and risk assessment under state and federal programs (e.g., RCRA, CERCLA).
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills.
Education and Licenses
  • Master’s degree in biology, chemistry, ecology, environmental science, natural resources, toxicology or a related field.
