Job Description Summary:
The part-time, temporary Dentist supports and enhances the mission of the Dental Department and provides additional leadership and management support for the Dental Clinics. In collaboration with the Dental Director and Program Directors, the Dentist will contribute to ongoing review, planning, and effectiveness of the programs, as well as accreditation efforts. The role requires broad knowledge of dental assisting and dental hygiene.
The Dentist reports to the Dental Director.
Duties/Functions:
Clinical
Provide clinical services including:
- Providing clinical coverage as a dentist within an educational setting
- Consulting and supervising dental assisting/hygiene faculty and students
- Reviewing and evaluating patient medical histories
- Overseeing care for medically compromised patients
- Suggesting treatment modifications
- Referring patients to appropriate medical staff as needed
- Diagnosing dental decay
- Prescribing and interpreting dental radiographs
- Evaluating dental treatment documentation
- Prescribing and adjusting pit and fissure sealants
- Providing local anesthesia in the dental hygiene clinic
- Interpreting dental pathology
- Providing basic restorative treatments
- Preparing dental consultative referrals
- Documenting clinical findings in Eagle Soft
- Auditing patient records for compliance
- Auditing accounts receivable documentation
Clinical Facilities
Provide oversight of facilities and equipment including:
- Maintaining classrooms and labs, including equipment upkeep
- Ensuring security and safety of facilities and materials
- Evaluating and recommending equipment to enhance learning
- Maintaining and repairing equipment as needed
- Ensuring compliance with regulations
Professional Development
Maintain professional status by:
- Participating in professional development activities
- Maintaining current credentials and licensures
Student Support
Support student success by:
- Promoting retention and persistence
- Referring students to resources
- Addressing student concerns and mediating
Additional Duties
Maintain student records and perform other duties as assigned.
Education Required:
- Doctor of Dental Science or Doctor of Dental Medicine from an accredited institution
- Current unrestricted license or eligibility for licensure in North Carolina
KSA Required:
The instructor should understand and be committed to the role of the Community College, especially its educational mission.
