Teaching faculty at GTCC support student success by creating an optimal learning environment, responding to student needs, managing instructional activities, modeling employability skills, demonstrating professionalism, developing cooperative relationships with colleagues, supporting college administrative requirements, and maintaining competence in their instructional field. They are responsible for quality instruction and active participation in college affairs.
The instructor will teach therapeutic massage, delivering lessons through lectures and hands-on demonstrations, adhering to professional and ethical standards. Qualifications must meet North Carolina Board of Massage and Bodywork Therapy requirements, either holding a license or a relevant degree. The teaching will primarily involve demonstrations of hands-on techniques. The work schedule varies (days, evenings, weekends) depending on the assignment.
The Therapeutic Massage Program is regulated by the North Carolina Board of Massage and Bodywork Therapy and complies with all relevant rules and regulations.
Duties/Functions:
Teaching
Prepare and teach departmental courses, including:
- Developing learner-centered lesson plans
- Using diverse teaching strategies and instructional materials for different learning styles
- Integrating current technology in classroom, online, and lab settings
- Creating a supportive learning environment for a diverse student body
- Distributing and utilizing instructional materials such as syllabi, media, and resources
- Updating curricula to meet accreditation standards
- Developing new courses as needed
- Participating in the development and review of course and program outcomes
- Assessing student learning outcomes appropriately
Professional Development
Maintain professional status by:
- Engaging in activities to stay current in the field and maintaining necessary credentials or licenses
- Participating in teaching skill development opportunities
Administration
Oversee facilities, equipment, and records, including:
- Maintaining classroom and lab spaces and equipment
- Ensuring security and safety of facilities and materials
- Managing student records (grades, attendance) using technology (e.g., Colleague, Web Advisor, Moodle)
- Complying with relevant regulations
Student Support
Create an environment conducive to student success by:
- Addressing student concerns promptly
- Supporting retention and persistence strategies
- Referring students to resources as needed
Model and demonstrate employability skills: adaptability, communication, information processing, problem solving, responsibility, and teamwork.
Additional Duties:- Administrative tasks such as attendance and record keeping
- Performing duties assigned by supervisor
Education Required:
- Associate's degree from an accredited post-secondary institution
- License in Massage & Bodywork Therapy (LMBT) or licensed in Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Chiropractic, or Nursing
Preferred Education:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
- Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT) Certified Instructor
KSA Required:
The instructor should understand and be committed to the role of community colleges and their educational mission.
