PHARMACY DIRECTOR at Jamestown Regional Medical Center
OverviewThe Pharmacy Director is responsible for directing, coordinating, and controlling the operations of the Pharmacy Department, including ensuring compliance with patient care quality standards, managing purchase and inventory of pharmaceuticals and related supplies, and overseeing departmental planning, revenue analysis, budgeting, education, and human resource management.
Responsibilities- Quality:
Develops and implements guidelines for assessment, evaluation, planning, and documentation of medication use across all patient age groups; collaborate with nursing, medical staff, and clinical department leaders to uphold and enhance patient care; lead performance improvement initiatives; manage secure storage and distribution of pharmaceutical items with compliance to federal/state regulations and inventory control; maintain and update formularies, reference texts, and journals for informed decision-making and staff education. - Service:
Oversee and manage overall operations of the Pharmacy Department to ensure efficient service; coordinate integration with other patient care areas; participate in Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee and other hospital committees; represent the hospital in professional associations; perform the full scope of responsibilities of a staff pharmacist as needed. - People:
Lead HR functions for the Pharmacy Department (recruitment, promotion, orientation, performance evaluations); coordinate educational experiences for pharmacy and technician students; direct in-service training programs; stay informed on industry trends and apply best practices. - Finance:
Evaluate revenue streams and ensure alignment with reimbursement regulations; prepare and analyze reports on service utilization and revenue; manage annual budget and address variances; maintain accurate records for patient charges, requisitioning, and dispensing of pharmaceuticals, with strict compliance on narcotics and controlled substances. - Growth:
Develop and implement goals, policies, and standards aligned with institutional objectives and JCAHO standards; coordinate initiatives to address pharmaceutical service challenges; cultivate partnerships with industry professionals; promote staff development and student education initiatives.
- Qualifications/Requirements:
Professional level of knowledge in specialized field equivalent to completion of one year of post-graduate internship;
Graduate of college of pharmacy accredited by The American Council of Pharmaceutical Education;
Licensed by the North Dakota Board of Pharmacy;
Residency completion is highly preferred.
- Work Experience:
Three to five years of experience in an acute care hospital setting within a Pharmacy Department. - Supervisory or project management experience is required.
- Analytical ability:
Strong problem-solving skills. - Independent judgment:
Ability to receive assignments with expected results and due dates. - Contacts with others:
High level of interpersonal and communication skills to negotiate and gain acceptance. - Policies and procedures:
Involves establishment of policies for department-level or hospital-wide policies within a functional area. - Physical and sensory effort:
Constant standing or walking; occasional sitting; dexterity for IVs, medications, computer use; ability to reach items; navigate narrow aisles; lift up to 30 lbs frequently. - Mental/visual effort:
Attention to detail; clear spoken and written English; good visual acuity; good general health and emotional stability. - Working conditions:
Frequent interruptions; exposure to hazardous materials; may require after-hours, weekend and holiday work; adherence to Safety Management program and Standard Precautions; OSHA Category I for exposure to blood borne pathogens. - Background check:
