Coordinates total nursing care for patients of all ages utilizing the nursing process; directs patient and family teaching; provides leadership by working cooperatively with ancillary nursing and other patient team personnel in maintaining standards for professional nursing practice in the clinical setting.
This casual position involves working 16 hours on Family Birth Place (FBP) per six-week schedule, with shifts including a combination of 12-hour days and nights on a variable rotation. Weekend and holiday shifts are as needed. Candidates must have completed FHR monitoring course and NRP, or be willing to obtain these certifications.
Job Functions
- Maintain standards of nursing care and implement hospital policies and procedures.
- Provide direct patient care for all ages, including assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation.
- Assess patient conditions considering age-specific needs, educational needs, and discharge planning.
- Develop care plans and prescribe nursing interventions to meet patient outcomes.
- Evaluate patient outcomes and adjust care plans as needed.
- Participate in discharge planning and patient/family education.
- Report observations accurately to physicians, supervisors, or managers.
- Delegate nursing tasks to appropriate healthcare team members.
- Administer medications, IV therapy, and perform treatments as ordered.
- Assist physicians with procedures such as thoracentesis and lumbar puncture.
- Ensure equipment safety and cleanliness.
- Participate in orientation and performance evaluations of staff.
- Coordinate nursing care during therapies and procedures.
- Maintain effective communication with patients, families, and staff.
- Assist in emergency responses, including cardiac arrest.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment.
- Engage in staff development programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Completion of an accredited RN program, current RN licensure from the ND State Board of Nursing, and certifications including BLS, with additional certifications like PALS/ACLS and NRP as required for specific roles.
- Preferred previous experience; new graduates may be considered with appropriate training.
- Ability to perform analytical tasks, exercise independent judgment, and communicate effectively.
- Supervisory responsibilities may include planning and checking work of 1-5 staff members.
- High standards for safety, confidentiality, and professionalism.
