Job Title: Staff Accountant (CPA)
Location: Madison, WI
Employment Type: Full-Time (Direct Hire)
Compensation
: $65,000–$80,000 annually, depending on experience
Schedule: Monday–Friday | 8:00 AM–5:00 PM | Full-Time
Work Environment: On-site
We're partnering with a well-established public accounting firm in the Madison area to hire an experienced Staff Accountant. This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional who holds a CPA license or is CPA-eligible and enjoys working with a diverse client base while gaining exposure to tax preparation, accounting, bookkeeping, payroll, and financial statement engagements.
The ideal candidate will have 3–4+ years of public accounting experience, strong tax knowledge, and a passion for delivering exceptional client service.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare and review individual, business, trust, and nonprofit tax returns
- Prepare tax work papers, trial balances, depreciation schedules, and supporting documentation
- Perform bookkeeping, payroll, and general accounting services for clients
- Assist with financial statement preparation, compilations, and review engagements
- Prepare payroll tax and sales tax filings
- Maintain accurate financial records and accounting documentation
- Communicate with clients regarding accounting and tax-related matters
- Ensure compliance with tax deadlines and regulatory requirements
Required:
- CPA license or eligibility to sit for the CPA exam
- 3–4+ years of public accounting experience
- Experience preparing and reviewing tax returns
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and tax regulations
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Experience with Quick Books or similar accounting software
- Experience working with a variety of business and individual clients
- Ability to work extended hours during peak busy season (January through April), including designated Saturdays
- Willingness to support a collaborative, team-oriented environment and assist with additional responsibilities as needed
