Accounting Manager

Our client is an organization with opportunities in the Janesville, WI or Aurora, IL area looking for an Accounting Manager
. Our client is looking for an experienced accounting professional who combines a strong technical accounting foundation with proven leadership capabilities. This individual will oversee key accounting activities, support accurate and timely financial reporting, and provide guidance and development to members of the accounting team.

The Accounting Manager will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

• Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting close activities and ensure established reporting deadlines are met.
• Oversee general ledger accounting and maintain the accuracy and integrity of financial information.
• Review journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and other supporting accounting schedules.
• Prepare and review financial statements and recurring management reporting.
• Analyze balance sheet and income statement accounts and investigate significant or unusual activity.
• Provide day-to-day leadership, coaching, and development to members of the accounting team.
• Establish team priorities, review work, and ensure accounting responsibilities are completed accurately and efficiently.
• Maintain accounting policies, procedures, documentation, and internal controls.
• Partner with Finance and other departments to resolve accounting issues and improve the quality of financial information.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis activities as needed.
• Coordinate audit requests and prepare supporting schedules and documentation.
• Research accounting questions and assist with determining appropriate treatment for transactions.
• Identify opportunities to improve close procedures, reporting, controls, and accounting workflows.
• Support accounting system enhancements and other process improvement initiatives.
• Assist with special projects and broader accounting initiatives as business needs evolve.

The Accounting Manager will possess the following:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience required.
• 2+ years of accounting leadership, supervisory, or management experience required.
• Strong hands-on accounting background with experience in general ledger accounting and month-end close.
• Experience preparing and reviewing journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statements.
• Solid understanding of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting principles.
• Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and develop accounting professionals.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to research and resolve accounting discrepancies.
• Experience supporting internal or external audits preferred.
• Strong Excel skills and experience working with ERP or accounting systems.
• Ability to balance team leadership with hands-on involvement in accounting activities.
• Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with the ability to collaborate across departments.
• Proactive, accountable, and committed to strengthening accounting processes and team performance.
