Janesville, Wisconsin and Rockford, Illinois work locations. 36 hours/week – over 3 × 12‑hour shifts per week.

The Transport Advanced Provider (Paramedic) is responsible for providing high quality critical care and transportation of critically ill or injured patients to the appropriate medical facilities utilizing standards and guidelines established by Mercyhealth Medical Director(s). The transport Paramedic is a key member of the Critical Care (ICU), Emergency Department (ED), and demonstrates the highest quality of emergency/critical care standards of practice and commitment to safety.

Cares for patients, prepares and compiles records, and processes orders in the hospital setting under the direction of nursing staff by performing the following duties, supporting the nursing philosophy. May include weekends, holidays, day, evening, night, and/or on‑call hours. Participate as an active member of outreach by assisting with education classes both comprising and giving education to hospital staff and EMS agencies.

Participate in Quality Improvement (Q.I.) of the CCTT program as a whole. Perform other duties as assigned including floating to various units and facilities within Mercyhealth based on identified needs and clinical competency.

• Provides pre‑hospital advanced life support care from the initial contact until patient care is relinquished to the accepting medical facility; maintains thorough patient care documentation (Trauma Soft/Epic) in a timely manner.
• Practices within scope of practice as defined by the State of Illinois/Wisconsin and Mercyhealth. Maintains competency by participating in laboratory and clinical experiences. Communicates educational needs to program leadership.
• Provides patient care as assigned and per routine, according to standards of care, shift routines, and policies and procedures.
• Performs advanced skills and procedures as approved by Mercyhealth.
• Maintains documentation of required licensure, certifications, continuing education, and safety training, OSHA and HIPAA training, clinical rotations, and advanced procedures. Attends educational programs as required.
• Serves as a role model, educator, and clinical resource. Participates regularly in departmental activities, simulation, projects, and committees.
• Acts as a preceptor and/or participates in onboarding/orientation of new partners and students. Clearly communicates program goals and objectives.
• Knowledgeable in use and routine maintenance of all equipment and supplies used by Mercyhealth. Responsible for reporting medical equipment failures and taking initial steps to repair as directed. Maintains adequate supplies within program/ambulances.
• Maintains a clean work and patient environment.
• Processes orders accurately and promptly. Answers the telephone and call lights appropriately, providing information or relaying messages to patients and staff.
• Performs venipuncture, IV access, 12‑lead acquisition, blood glucose analysis, and CPR as ordered.
• Assists with airway management, chest tube placement, CVP, and splinting interventions and applications.
• Floats to outlying Mercyhealth facilities (Janesville, Rockford, Walworth, Harvard) based on staffing needs.
• Directs visitors to patients’ rooms. Maintains medical records of current patients. Processes patient charges and orders supplies as needed.

• Minimum two years’ (at least 4,000 hours) recent experience in a high‑volume 911 system with Advanced Life Support (ALS). Preferred: five years of experience.
• Previous critical care transport experience preferred.
• National Registry Certificate required.
• Paramedic license in the state of practice is required.
• Dual licensure in Illinois and Wisconsin required within 90 days.

• BLS/CPR, ACLS, PALS required within 90 days.
• NIMS Training IS 100, 200, 700, 800 and Hazmat within 90 days.
• EVOC driving course completion within 3 months of hire.
• Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required within 3 months of hire.
