Overview
Provides general medical care and treatment to patients in medical facility such as clinic, health center, or public health agency, under direction of Physician, by performing the following duties.

Job Summary
The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP/APNP) will provide outpatient psychiatric evaluation and medication management. The PMHNP/APNP will work in coordination with clinic counseling services and therapists to provide psychiatric services to adult, adolescent and child clients with behavioral health needs. Maintains timely flow of patients. Provides patient and family education. Documents patient care and related information in the EMR Performs telephone or MyChart triaging of patients if indicated Performs other duties as assigned.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
The PMHNP/APNP must work with a collaborating physician who would consult with the Independent Nurse Prescriber as indicated by either party. The APNP may practice within their areas of competence based upon education, training, experience and scope of license in accordance with clinic credentialing.

Must follow prescribing guidelines regarding Schedule I and Schedule II medications as described in WI Administrative Code Chapter N 8.

Complies with all credentialing and reimbursement processes relevant to Mercyhealth billing and coding system.

Individual one-on-one cases should always include a component of medication management.

Psychotherapy is provided the therapist assigned to the patient. When indicated it may also be provided by the APNP, in conjunction with medication management.

Minimum 85% of time is scheduled direct clinical time.

At Each Appointment/time Of Service The APNP

  • Evaluates the patient’s status
  • Reviews diagnoses, allergies, medications, labs and other clinical information.
  • Prescribe Medications as indicated
  • Documents the clinical information in the Electronic Record within Mercyhealth guidelines.
  • Completes the coding/billing and any necessary paperwork (med consent, work/school excuse) for the appointment.

The PMHNP/APNP completes treatment plan reviews as required by state statutes and case manages their patients throughout the course of the treatment when a therapist is not involved in the case.

The PMHNP/APNP will attend NP collaboration sessions to review cases. As appropriate collaboration may be documented in the patient’s medical record.

The PMHNP/APNP may be asked to attend variable department/administrative meetings as necessary.

  • Adult (18 years – 64 years)
  • Geriatric (65 years and older)

Education & Experience
Graduate of an accredited nursing program.

Graduate of an accredited masters of nursing program.

Meets the requirements determined by the State of Wisconsin or Illinois to perform duties defined as those of a Nurse Practitioner.

CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE
Hold valid RN license in state of practice.

Maintain ANCC certification as PMHNP or PMHCNS with prescriptive authority

Hold valid APNP license in state of practice.

Approved CPR or BLS certification required within 90 days (Other certification per unit requirements: ACLS, PALS, PEARS, NRP)

Valid DEA number
