Role Overview
Drive the development and implementation of category business plans within assigned categories based on a customer centric approach. Manage assets to achieve category roles and scorecard results through developing and executing category strategies.
- Product assortment
- Pricing
- Promotion

- Buying and inventory management decisions
Coordinate with other functions and departments and manage the operating budget.
Managerial Accountabilities- Ensures that all direct reportees have personal objectives and KPIs that cascade down the department deliverables, regularly reviews performance, and provides annual performance ratings.
- Plans and monitors training needs, provides professional coaching, and ensures staff have a personal development plan.
- Motivates employees, monitors employee satisfaction, and plans and executes actions to improve it.
- Ensures staff in place to perform required tasks.
- Manages total category performance.
- Defines category role, including own brand, and manages execution in accordance with company positioning and market opportunities.
- Builds the category strategy and translates it into plans for each sub category.
- Designs category dimensions and planograms according to company strategy and customer needs.
- Has solid customer and market understanding and develops latest product trends by sub category and customer patterns.
- Builds sustainable joint business plans with key activities for all sub categories.
- Sets building blocks and annual operating plan for category growth.
- Improves inventory turns.
- Manages supplier brief communication, item selection, promo internal communication, forecasting and sign off.
- Conducts post promo review and analysis and takes actions accordingly.
- Handles category re set.
- Actively plans and works on filling market gaps through format, tiers, and region.
- Actively searches new business opportunities, business models, services or products.
- Rationalizes and optimizes.
- Defines pricing strategy and sets sales price and margin responsibility.
- Monitors and reviews category profitability.
- Sets MFQ and MDQ to improve category availability.
- Monitors planogram implementation in stores to improve category footfall.
- Develops CATMAN principles to improve category footfall.
- Conducts monthly and quarterly performance reviews with action.
