Why You’ll Love This Position

Newborn screening is one of the greatest public health achievements of the 20th century. As a member of our team you will be an important part of protecting the health of babies by contributing to the early identification and intervention of over 70 metabolic and genetic disorders identified on Missouri’s newborn screening panel. This unique opportunity will allow you to make a difference by ensuring Missouri children are able to grow up as healthy as possible.

The salary indicated represents a base pay rate. If the individual selected or the position is eligible for a pay differential (e.g., shift, security, or years of service), it will be added to the total compensation in your paycheck. A pay differential does not raise your base pay.

  • Assist in conducting short‑term follow‑up on low‑risk newborn screening results.
  • Monitor data collected from parent surveys and prepare meaningful reports for program quality improvement.
  • Develop and maintain a process for determining if babies have missed their blood spot screen.
  • Assist in contract monitoring for Genetic Tertiary Centers and Cystic Fibrosis Centers.
  • Collaborate with the newborn screening team to develop and implement social media campaigns, educational materials, outreach activities, and presentations.
  • Communicate with parents of newborns, health care providers, birthing hospitals, the public, and colleagues in regard to the importance of newborn screening in protecting the health and safety of Missouri babies.
  • Assist in budget monitoring, invoice processing, and tracking of expenditures.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree and 2 or more years of relevant experience. (Substitutions may be allowed)
  • Ability to work with considerable independence performing a wide range of duties to support the program.
  • Professional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft 365 suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.
  • Knowledge of newborn screening and maternal child health is preferred.
  • Lack of post‑secondary education will not be used as the sole basis denying consideration to any applicant.

The State of Missouri offers an excellent benefits package that includes a defined pension plan, generous amounts of leave and holiday time, and eligibility for health insurance coverage. Your total compensation is more than the dollars you receive in your paycheck. To help demonstrate the value of working for the State of Missouri, we have created an interactive Total Compensation Calculator.
