POSITION TITLE:
Teacher – Early Childhood Special Education

FLSA:
Exempt

QUALIFICATIONS:
Must hold proper state certification

REPORTS TO:
Principal and/or other Supervisor

PURPOSE STATEMENT

Classroom teacher in an at-risk preschool in Jefferson City School District

Responsibilities

• Case manages assigned children by developing IEPs, collecting progress monitoring data, analyzing data to direct instruction, reporting progress and coordinating services.
• Implement individual and small group instruction to implement IEP goals and preschool curriculum for individual children
• Implement appropriate systems to regularly monitor educational progress and maintain/ complete records and reports as required.
• Plan and provide training and support for paraprofessionals, other professionals and families regarding IEP goals.
• Provide an educational environment where instruction is individualized for each student and includes supports and modifications that facilitate learning.
• Implement district curriculum.
• Design activities that engage children in active learning.
• Actively engage in professional development activities.
• Use a variety of different educational techniques (for example storytelling, playing games, media presentations etc.) for instruction.
• Facilitate development of children's social skills, self-esteem, self-regulation and academics.
• Inspire children to communicate with each other in a friendly and positive manner
• Facilitate positive conflict resolution.
• Supervise students during classroom instructional activities, recess and snack time.
• Maintain an open line of communication with parents and provide appropriate information.
• Evaluate students' academic, communication, and social growth. Keep appropriate records for progress monitoring and complete the district preschool assessment (Desired Results Developmental Profile) twice yearly.
• Ensure a safe and orderly learning environment.
• Collaborate with other teachers, paraprofessionals and administration.
• Directly supervise a classroom aide/paraprofessional.
• Participate in required meetings, committees and school activities.
• Adhere with all relevant health and safety standards and policies of the Jefferson City School District.

Job Requirements

• Minimum of bachelor's degree in education.
• Current Early Childhood Teacher Certification (B-3)
• In-depth knowledge of child development and latest education theories and practices
• Must enjoy working with children
• Creative teaching abilities
• Patience and flexibility.
• Believe in positive behavior supports for student success.
• Possess outstanding communication, interpersonal and leadership skills
