Job OverviewWe are looking for a detail‑oriented individual who can provide highly technical analyses, service, and guidance to a wide range of stakeholders. As an Industrial Permit Writer, you will work with permit tees, neighbors, consultants and other interested parties to ensure facility permit applications are properly and thoroughly reviewed. If the application meets all requirements, the permit writer is then tasked with issuing a permit for the facility.
This position will also work with agricultural and other commercial facilities to ensure compliance with the Missouri Clean Water Law and regulations.
- Draft permits, issue public notices, review input, and issue Missouri State Operating Permits for industrial stormwater and wastewater discharges, including landfills, quarries, and airports. The permit and fact sheet will often exceed 30 pages together.
- Coordinate with permit tees, the Missouri Geological Survey team, and our Water Protection Program engineering team members, legal counsel and others to ensure compliance with all Clean Water law and regulations.
- Review all comments received on draft permits, considering all comments, updating the draft permit if needed, and responding to all comments. Present information and respond to questions from the public at public meetings for permits that garner wide‑spread public interest as needed.
- Provide compliance assistance and rule interpretation for permit tees, potential permit tees, neighbors, and other interested parties.

Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, or related scientific field. (Additional education or experience may substitute for the required education or experience.)
