This AWS Architect position within the Office of Administration, Information Technology Services Division, supporting the Department of Labor and Industrial Relations (DOLIR) offers those opportunities. You’ll design, implement, and optimize AWS infrastructure solutions, collaborate with ITSD teams and DOLIR leadership, and contribute to the state’s cloud transformation and modernization agenda.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise staff on AWS best practices, Well‑Architected Framework principles, and cloud‑native methodologies.
- Monitor AWS service updates and maintenance windows, working with other ITSD teams to ensure smooth migrations and minimal impact of infrastructure changes.
- Assist in establishing AWS core competencies across cross‑functional teams and improve cloud development and deployment processes.
- Review project plans, SOWs, and RFPs with a focus on AWS feasibility, cloud security, and cost optimization.
- Provide complex technical support and coordination on AWS security implementations, server migrations to EC2, decommissioning on‑premises hardware, and cloud vendor relations.
- Directly interact with and advise all functional teams within ITSD and ITSD‑DOLIR on cloud architecture decisions.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum 7 years in IT with emphasis in Cloud Architecture and Infrastructure.
- Extensive experience with AWS services (EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, VPC, IAM, Cloud Formation).
- Experience with Azure and Google Cloud Platform preferred.
- Experience with Service Now, Okta, M365 or SharePoint preferred.
- Comprehensive knowledge of AWS Dev Ops tools (Code Pipeline, Code Build, Code Deploy) and Git repository management; promote best practices for branching/merging, code promotion, and CI/CD.
- Strong understanding of cloud migration strategies, Infrastructure as Code, and the AWS Well‑Architected Framework.
- Familiarity with project planning, budgeting, cloud cost optimization, and architecture diagramming.
- Broad experience with cloud automation, monitoring, and infrastructure modeling tools.
- Strong analytical, critical‑thinking, and time‑management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Ability to mentor a dedicated team and collaborate across organizational boundaries.
- Successful background check results required.
