Senior Technician – Louisville General Job Description
The Senior Technician is a heavy equipment mechanic specializing in the modernization and repair of cranes. The role requires routine maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and upgrades, as well as the ability to solve complex problems when cranes malfunction. It requires self‑sufficiency, leadership, effective communication, and professionalism to lead field technicians and serve as the liaison between HCSG management and customers. The position operates in a safety‑first environment and requires on‑call availability for after‑hour, weekend, and emergency service calls.
Duties & Responsibilities- Be available on‑call and provide after‑hour services as required.
- Troubleshoot, repair, inspect, and upgrade industrial hoists and cranes at customer locations.
- Train and mentor field technicians.
- Perform OSHA‑required hoist and crane inspections, generate inspection reports, and create repair orders.
- Communicate with the Service Manager and Branch Manager to schedule and complete daily work.
- Consult with customers on all repair and safety issues, providing recommendations to improve their services.
- Maintain company equipment, vehicles, and assets in safe and working condition.
- Operate tools, equipment, and vehicles safely; report any deficiencies to the supervisor.
- Maintain supplies of HCSG forms and miscellaneous materials in the company vehicle.
- Work collaboratively within a team environment.
- Attend required company trainings and seminars.
- Participate in HCSG 5 Marks program.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
This labor‑intensive role requires lifting up to 50 lbs daily and up to 100 lbs on rare occasions. Employees must perform frequent climbing, balancing, stooping/crouching, overhead reaching, bending, squatting, and prolonged standing and sitting. Occasional pushing, pulling, kneeling, and crawling are required. The job requires good hand‑eye coordination and may involve heights up to 50 feet and travel (20‑50 %) with varied shifts, including on‑call and overtime.
The position may involve heights up to 50 feet and travel out of town as needed.
Work is performed interiorly or exteriorly depending on customer locations, exposing the employee to extreme temperatures, noise, heights, fumes, dust, and odors. Summer temperatures can exceed 120 °F.
Minimum Qualifications- 5–7 years of crane repair and maintenance experience.
- 3–4 years of electrical and/or mechanical experience as an alternative.
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
- Commitment to safe driving and working practices.
- Willingness to work at various heights off the ground.
- Basic computer skills for web‑based crane inspection programs.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Knowledge of hand tools and/or proficiency with hand tools.
- Must pass a pre‑employment drug test and background check (DISA) and submit to random and annual drug testing as required.
- Vocational or technical training certificate.
