Position SummaryOwens Realty Services is seeking an experienced Professional Engineer – Mechanical, HVAC & Building Automation Systems to serve as a District Lead Engineer supporting comprehensive facility management services for K-12 school districts in Indiana. This role provides dedicated engineering leadership for assigned districts and is responsible for HVAC system oversight, Building Automation Systems (BAS), energy savings initiatives, preventive maintenance strategies, and lifecycle planning.
The successful candidate will serve as the primary technical authority for mechanical systems performance, energy optimization, and controls integration while certifying engineering analyses and supporting performance-based facility management contracts in accordance with Indiana Code 5-22-7.
Required Licensure & Education- Professional Engineer (PE) – Registered in the State of Indiana (active and in good standing)
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related engineering discipline
- Serve as the District Lead Professional Engineer for assigned school district(s), providing dedicated technical oversight and serving as the primary engineering point of contact
- Coordinate closely with district administrators, facility staff, and Owens Realty Services operations teams
- Provide engineering leadership for facility performance, reliability, and energy efficiency initiatives
- Oversee operation, maintenance, and performance of HVAC and mechanical systems, including:
- Boilers, chillers, cooling towers
- Air handling units (AHUs), rooftop units, VAV systems
- Pumps, exhaust systems, and associated mechanical equipment
- Review system performance, operating conditions, and maintenance practices
- Support troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and resolution of mechanical system issues
- Provide technical guidance for system repairs, upgrades, and replacements
- Provide oversight and optimization of Building Automation Systems (BAS/DDC)
- Review and optimize control strategies, scheduling, alarms, trends, and setpoints
- Ensure proper integration between HVAC equipment and BAS platforms
- Support commissioning and retro-commissioning activities
- Use BAS data to drive operational efficiency, comfort, and energy savings
- Lead district-level energy audits and energy analyses
- Establish utility baselines and benchmark facility performance
- Identify, quantify, and support implementation of energy conservation measures
- Support ENERGY STAR benchmarking and ongoing utility data tracking
- Lead continuous energy optimization efforts through HVAC and BAS strategies
- Develop and refine preventive and predictive maintenance programs for mechanical systems
- Align maintenance strategies with manufacturer recommendations, runtime data, and system condition
- Support lifecycle cost analysis and capital planning for mechanical assets
- Identify risk, reliability concerns, and deferred maintenance priorities
- Prepare, review, and seal engineering reports
