Description:
The Nurse Manager supervises and coordinates activities of nursing personnel on 3rd floor. The Nurse Manager also functions daily as a CRN for the med-surg area. Verifies that patients' needsare met and evaluates unit nursing care and performance. Participates in planning work of assigned units and coordinates activities with other patient care units and related departments. Plans and organizes training for unit staff members, and participates in guidance and educational programs.
Provides direct patient care when necessary on the floors.
Job Functions Staff Development:
Develops performance plans, identifies performance issues, manages performance and career development. Approves and contributes to in-service education programs for assigned staff. Coordinates the educational activities of staff; communicates new/revised protocols, guidelines, and standards to assigned staff as changes occur.
Patient Care:
Manages and coordinates the activities of Nursing and Support Staff of assigned units to ensure patient care is provided in accordance with the established standards and legal requirements. Ensures that continuity of care is maintained during all shiftsof the unit providing 24-hour patient care. Provides professional Nursing careto patients when necessary due to work load or staffing shortages.
Staffing:
Ensures appropriate staffing is provided for all shifts of operation for responsible units. Monitors, evaluates and modifies staffing patterns in orderto properly utilize assigned staff to provide patient care in assigned areas;prepares and modifies work schedules as needed to ensure adequate coverage ofall shifts; approves paid time off, sick time, and leave of absence requirements for assigned staff. Ensures that unit standards and monitoring procedures are consistent with the goals and objectives of CMH.
Patient Satisfaction:
Performs daily patient rounding to ensure patient satisfaction criteria are being met and to monitor and evaluate employee performance. Investigates,resolves, and documents the resolution of complaints or incidents concerning patients.
Coordination:
Communicates with various departments to coordinate services, resolve operational issues, and improve quality of patient care.
Budget:
Provides input to operational budget development. Process Improvement:
Continuously reviews processes for operational improvement and efficiencies.
Management:
Oversees the planning and delivery of patient care by Nursing Staff during the 24-hour operation of assigned unit according to identified patient needs; conducts regularly scheduled rounds on assigned unitsto ensure quality care is provided; conducts staff meetings to ensure continuity of planning and implementation of effective patient care.
Other Duties:
Completes special projects and performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Qualifications Experience
Required:
Prefer a Bachelor's of Science degree in Nursing. Prefer 3-5 years minimum of relevant nursing experience. 1-2 years of Nursing Management experience is expected. Current Indiana RN license required. Expectation to be nationally certified in medical-surgical nursing within 1 year.
