Duties and Responsibilities

These are the basic job duties that an employee must be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation(s). Other reasonable duties may be assigned.

  • Administer and interpret standardized assessments (e.g., TABE, GED Ready) to monitor student progress and guide instructional planning based on LCTCS guidelines. Instruction may be delivered at multiple site locations, including the Lake Charles Main Campus, Morgan Smith (Jennings), Oakdale, and/or Lamar Salter (Leesville) campuses.
  • Design and implement standards-based lesson plans aligned with the College and Career Readiness Standards (CCRS) and High School Equivalency (HSE) test objectives:
  • Develop and deliver Adult Education and Literacy, including Adult Basic Education ABE and ASE, to support eligible adult learners—such as out-of-school youth aged 16 and older—in achieving educational and career readiness goals, including earning a High School Equivalency Diploma (GED).
  • Deliver differentiated instruction in reading, writing, mathematics, science, and social studies to meet the diverse academic levels and learning styles of adult learners.
  • Implement a variety of instructional delivery methods that include large group, small group, individualized and contextualized instruction as well as computer programs that help students achieve learning gains.
  • Utilize online instructional programs to supplement in-class instructional delivery.
  • Follow prescribed pre and post testing guidelines (such as frequency and documentation) as defined by federal grant policies, LCTCS, and SOWELA WorkReady

    U Adult Education.
  • Consult program leadership to ensure the selection and use of appropriate instructional materials and resources, and to maintain compliance with institutional policies, grant requirements, and state/federal guidelines.
  • Integrate digital literacy, workforce preparation, and career exploration into classroom instruction in accordance with WIOA Title II expectations.
  • Teach basic computer skills, internet navigation, email use, online safety, and the use of productivity tools such as Microsoft Office.
  • Assist with Integrated Education & Training (IET).
  • Assist students in attaining Industry-based credentials (IBCs) to secure entry‑level employment or advance in their current occupation.
  • Guide students through career assessments, labor market research, and goal‑setting aligned with career pathways and postsecondary options.
  • Conduct regular benchmark assessments in collaboration with students to evaluate academic progress, identify learning gaps, and determine readiness for advancement to the next instructional level or for taking the high school equivalency exam.
  • Use assessment data to pinpoint specific learning gaps, such as deficiencies in reading comprehension, mathematical reasoning, writing mechanics, or test‑taking strategies, and adjust instruction accordingly to support student success.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of student attendance, progress, and outcomes in compliance with federal, state, and institutional reporting requirements.
  • Provide academic and career advising to guide students through career exploration, job readiness training, and enrollment in college or training programs.
  • Collaborate with college staff, workforce partners, and community organizations to ensure coordinated support and seamless transitions into postsecondary education, workforce training, or employment opportunities.
  • Connect students with appropriate community‑based resources and support services—such as mental health counseling, housing assistance, transportation, and childcare—to help remove barriers to success and promote academic and career achievement.
  • Participate in required professional development activities, including training on federal grant compliance, instructional strategies, assessment tools, and WIOA compliance.
