Job Purpose and Summary

Our Staff Pharmacists play a critical role in cultivating a culture of excellence in their pharmacy by acting as a role model for all, demonstrating genuine care, and setting the bar for the pharmacy team.

Responsibilities
  • Live our purpose by helping to manage and improve patient health through safe and appropriate dispensing, counseling, and immunizing practices.
  • Take direction from the Pharmacy Manager and oversee the pharmacy as their proxy during bench shifts, strengthening performance measures through effective coaching and consistent follow‑up.
  • Assume Pharmacy Manager’s day‑to‑day duties when serving as the only or primary pharmacist‑on‑duty.
  • Support safe and accurate prescription fulfillment by following pharmacy workflow procedures and directing the team to do the same.
  • Contribute to positive patient experiences by showing empathy and genuine care, coaching the team to do the same, and proactively resolving insurance or medication issues.
  • Proactively offer and deliver immunizations and support Pharmacy Technicians in learning to immunize.
  • Manage pharmacy inventory by following best practices, focusing on cold chain products.
  • Partner with the Pharmacy Manager to ensure compliance with state Board of Pharmacy regulations and raise concerns to pharmacy leadership as needed.
  • Remain flexible for scheduling and business needs while supporting a safe, inclusive, and engaging team dynamic.
  • Maintain relevant clinical and technical skills, pursuing opportunities to expand knowledge.
  • Support access to care and improve patient outcomes through pharmacist‑delivered clinical care such as testing and prescribing services where permissible.
  • Understand and comply with federal and state laws, professional standards, and CVS Health policies, including controlled substance dispensing and record‑keeping to protect patient privacy and a safe workplace.
Required Qualifications
  • Active Pharmacist License in the state where the Store is located.
  • Active National Provider Identifier (NPI).
  • Not on the DEA Excluded Parties list.
Essential Functions
  • Regular and predictable attendance, including nights and weekends.
  • Complete required training within designated timeframe.
  • Attention and Focus:
    • Concentrate on tasks over extended periods.
    • Pivot quickly between tasks to meet patient and business needs.
    • Confirm prescription information and label accuracy to ensure patient safety.
  • Customer Service and Team Orientation:
    • Proactively help people in a friendly manner.
    • Notice and respond appropriately to patient reactions.
  • Communication

    Skills:

    • Use verbal and written communication to interact with patients and colleagues.
    • Practice active listening and ask appropriate questions.
  • Mathematical Reasoning:
    • Use math to calculate doses, days’ supply, or additional bottles for prescriptions.
  • Issue Resolution:
    • Identify challenging interactions and choose the best course of action.
  • Physical Demands:
    • Be mobile and remain upright for extended periods.
    • Lift, scan, and bag items; lift up to 20 lbs. occasionally.
    • Reach overhead, stretch or reach out with arms and/or legs.
    • Manipulate items with fingers primarily.
    • Use precise movements for machine adjustments.
    • Maintain visual acuity for fine tasks.
    • Communicate detailed information orally and understand spoken directions.
