Environmental Health & Safety Manager — Idaho Milk Products

Position Summary

The EHS Manager plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of employees and adherence to environmental regulations within our organization. The EHS Manager is responsible for ensuring the implementation and continuous improvement of safety programs and policies and being a leader to the EHS Coordinator. This role involves providing leadership, guidance, and expertise to maintain a proactive safety culture, conducting assessments to identify areas of risk, and driving sustainable results and improvements.

The EHS Manager will oversee accident and injury investigations, prepare materials for hearings and insurance investigations, and ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal safety and environmental regulations.

Essential Functions, Duties And Performance Responsibilities
  • Oversee the implementation and functionality of company safety programs, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal laws and Idaho Milk Products KPIs.
  • Identify company safety training needs and develop and coordinate safety training programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Advise plant staff on regulatory changes and ensure timely compliance with new regulations.
  • Ensure the safety of plant personnel and their adherence to established safety policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Monitor lost-time injuries/illnesses and Worker's Compensation Claims.
  • Review injury/illness and non-injury incident investigation reports and follow up as necessary.
  • Promote safety and health awareness through internal communications, newsletters, and training programs.
  • Provide technical support to plant personnel to ensure compliance with occupational safety regulations.
  • Audit plant practices and records to ensure compliance with company programs and Federal/State occupational safety and health regulations.
  • Work with Engineering and Production to eliminate hazardous conditions.
  • Conduct and coordinate safety inspections on a regular basis.
  • Support plant personnel in the selection of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Assist with the Return-to-Work Program.
  • Maintain the company safety library (e.g., videos, regulations, reference manuals).
  • Prepare and maintain reports and documentation concerning the aspects of the safety program.
  • Stay current on federal, state, and local legislation related to OSHA and NFPA.
  • Provide 24x7 on-call support for emergencies and critical issues.
  • Transport employees to medical appointments as needed.
  • Oversee the operation of the pretreatment facility and maintain responsibility for minimizing NOVs.
  • Assist Engineering in developing and implementing capital improvements to the pretreatment system.
  • Maintain positive relationships with local and state regulators, including the City of Jerome and the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality.
Position Specifications and Qualifications

Education:

  • Required:

    A bachelor's degree in EHS, or another closely related field, or equivalent work experience.

Certification:

  • Safety and Environmental Certification is highly desired:
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
  • Associate Safety Professional (ASP)
  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
  • Certified Environmental Manager (CEM)

Experience:

  • Minimum of 7 to 10 years of experience, preferably within a manufacturing or industrial setting; consumer products, food, or beverage industry.
  • Prior experience in the development and delivery of safety training courses.
  • Experience conducting inspections/audits of safety policies and programs for regulatory compliance and investigating and reporting accidents/incidents.
  • Required:

    Valid state driver's license.
  • Experience in leadership and supervising people in a dynamic work environment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Conduct root cause analysis on each injury or near miss.
  • Run safety awareness campaigns.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of and the ability to interpret and apply complex local, state, and federal regulations from governing agencies such as OSHA and NFPA.
  • Knowledge of safety equipment and proper handling of chemicals.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
