Fisheries Biological Aide role at Idaho Fish and Game

Employment Dates: 05/10/2026 – 08/14/2026

About the position

The Idaho Department of Fish and Game is seeking a Biological Aide to serve as part of our regional fisheries management crew. This position will be located at our Magic Valley Regional Office in Jerome, Idaho. This is a 3–5 month temporary position with expected work hours of up to 40–50 hours per week. Housing is available for the employee only, and pets are not allowed.

General

Information

This position requires travel to remote locations for data collection, physical ability to walk and backpack for several hours over rugged terrain, and standing in cold water for up to eight hours per shift. It includes riding horses, hitching and pulling trailers, lifting up to 60+ pounds (and occasional lifting up to 100 pounds for short distances), and working in extreme weather conditions.

The incumbent will operate motorized equipment such as ATVs, boats, and fleet vehicles. Evening, weekend, and holiday work may be required, and overnight in‑state travel is expected.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum age of 18 years
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Experience following oral and written instructions, policies, and procedures
  • Some knowledge of the life history, anatomy, and ecology of various fish species
  • Previous experience operating boats, ATVs, UTVs, hitching and pulling trailers, working and recreating in remote locations
  • Relevant professional or volunteer experience and prior college coursework in fisheries science topics (preferred)
Responsibilities

Incumbents will work under direct supervision and perform routine tasks following established guidelines or procedures. Duties include conducting fish population surveys on streams, lakes, and reservoirs; assisting with habitat improvement projects; conducting creel survey interviews; preparing, repairing, and gathering equipment for surveys; recording and entering data into databases; preparing fish aging structures for lab analysis; and completing other duties as assigned.
