Job Description

Our Jersey City, NJ office is seeking a Senior/Supervising Geotechnical Engineer to join our Geotechnical and Water Engineering Practices. In this role, you will lead, manage, and provide technical support for a wide variety of complex geotechnical and interdisciplinary infrastructure projects involving dams and reservoirs, flood resiliency, heavy‑civil works, and other large‑scale infrastructure across the Northeast and nationwide. Job Responsibilities

Candidate will serve as Senior/Supervising Geotechnical Engineer. Major focus areas for the role include:

  • Lead, manage, and provide technical support within a collaborative, team of geotechnical professionals nationwide.
  • Develop, manage, and oversee the execution of geotechnical and geologic field investigations; evaluate instrumentation and monitoring data; and perform or oversee analyses and design related to soil and rock mechanics, foundations, dams and levees, canals, and flood protection structures. Additional responsibilities may include value engineering (VE) and forensic studies.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop geotechnical engineering staff, fostering technical excellence and professional development.
  • Lead and support business development initiatives, including proposal preparation, building teams and industry partnerships, and aligning the relevant expertise to best solve client challenges.
  • Serve as a primary client interface, establishing goals and objectives for project teams, and planning, scheduling, and managing resources to deliver high‑quality work on time and within budget.
  • Promote and integrate innovative technologies such as data‑driven design, numerical modeling, and automated workflows to enhance project efficiency and quality.
  • Contribute to a positive and collaborative office culture, helping cultivate a best‑in‑class environment where employees can thrive and reach their full potential.
  • Contribute to maintaining and developing Schnabel's strong brand in the geotechnical and water markets through thoughtful leadership embodied in published papers, writing papers, and participation at recognized conferences and workshops.
Required Skills/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree (Master's Degree preferred) in Geotechnical and/or Civil Engineering, or related fields.
  • 8+ years of experience in the geotechnical engineering field.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer or ability to become registered within 6 months.
  • Extensive geotechnical background, including a strong fundamental knowledge of principles of geotechnical and geostructural engineering, soil and rock mechanics, earthquake engineering, and groundwater hydrology.
