About the Role:
multi-year Port Authority project and is seeking an experienced Code Specialist with a strong architectural or engineering background. The ideal candidate has deep knowledge of building codes, life-safety requirements, and technical construction documents, and can support the project team by reviewing drawings, identifying code issues, and coordinating with agency stakeholders. This is an onsite, in-person role working closely with project managers, designers, engineers, and Port Authority representatives.
Key Responsibilities
Review drawings and specifications for compliance with applicable building codes, life-safety standards, and accessibility requirements.
Interpret and apply NYC Building Code, NJ Building Code, zoning, ADA, NFPA, and Port Authority standards.
Work with architectural, structural, MEP, and specialty consultants to resolve code-related issues.
Identify design and coordination risks related to code compliance.
Support the development of code compliance strategies for various project phases.
Required Qualifications
10+ years of experience in architecture, engineering, code consulting, or related technical roles.
Strong, demonstrated understanding of NYC and NJ building codes, zoning regulations, accessibility (ADA), and life-safety requirements.
Prior experience reviewing or producing design documents (plans, sections, details, specifications).
Familiarity with public-sector projects—Port Authority, MTA, DDC, SCA, and NJ agencies—is a plus.
Ability to communicate code requirements clearly to designers, engineers, and construction teams.
Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Must be able to work onsite and start immediately.
Preferred Qualifications
Professional licensure (RA, PE, or equivalent**) preferred but not required.
Experience with transportation or large-scale infrastructure projects.
Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and Bluebeam.
Work Environment
Full-time, onsite role supporting a multi-year project.
Provide guidance on code interpretations during design reviews, coordination meetings, and technical discussions.
Generate written summaries, markups, and documentation highlighting code compliance items or deficiencies.
Interface with agency reviewers and contribute to responses for technical/code-related comments.
Support the project team in addressing code questions stemming from RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, and field conditions.
