Overview
Hudson County Community College — Senior Maintenance Mechanic
Location: Jersey City, NJ
Department: College Operations
Reports to: Manager, Facilities
Classification: Non-Exempt – Senior Maintenance Mechanic
Salary Grade: 110 •
Union Affiliation: Support Staff Federation
- Lead, coordinate, and perform maintenance and repair work for various campus buildings/locations to ensure efficient operation of systems and equipment, in alignment with applicable regulations and standards.
- Respond to work orders from Facilities management; assign tasks to Maintenance Mechanics or complete work per preventive maintenance programs, quality standards, and deadlines; determine when outside contractors/vendors are needed and recommend actions to Facilities management.
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and perform installation, repair, replacement, and adjustment of facility systems and equipment (e.g., HVAC, boilers, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, roofing, painting, drywall, flooring, and related utilities); measure project requirements and procure materials as needed.
- Serve as onsite/field contact with Maintenance Mechanics and outside contractors; coordinate work and ensure completion according to procedures and time frames.
- Maintain inventory of materials, supplies, equipment, and tools; safely operate tools and equipment; provide training and guidance on safe operation; ensure safe handling and storage of equipment, supplies, and chemicals.
- Communicate effectively with all levels of staff, management, contractors, vendors, and suppliers regarding facilities operations, repairs, and services.
- Provide assistance and information to Facilities management and contribute to continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
- Establish and maintain documentation of work performed and ensure proper documentation procedures are followed by Maintenance Mechanics.
- Project a professional image regarding technical skill, safety, confidentiality, courtesy, conduct, and integrity; participate in flexible work schedules as defined by College needs.
- Coordinate or perform other facilities maintenance and repair activities as required.
- Education & Experience: High School diploma or equivalent with a minimum of three years of hands-on experience in facilities and equipment installation, maintenance, repair, and construction operations. Certified training in skilled trades preferred. Prior supervisory or lead experience preferred.
- Special
Skills:
Proficient knowledge of one or more building trades, with the ability to safely operate hand and power tools. Comprehensive knowledge of federal, state, and local codes and ordinances related to building maintenance and repair. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics. Effective verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills. Strong organization, prioritization, multi-tasking, and time management skills.
- Residency: As a New Jersey First Act Employer, new employees must establish a primary residence in New Jersey within one year.
