Position SummaryControls Engineers are responsible for designing, developing, installing, and maintaining equipment used to monitor and control systems, equipment and processes. They work in various industries including industrial controls and power controls and protection systems. Controls engineers are technical experts in areas such as advanced process control, instrumentation, distributed control systems, PLCs, and SCADA systems. They use these skills to design and implement solutions to our customer's complex needs.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesTechnical Responsibilities:
- Design or engineer small projects and support large programs by initiating design documents and creating design narratives.
- Perform requirements analysis and develop system functional documentation.
- Create subsystem designs (CAD, panels, layouts, wiring, SCADA screens, hardware, communications) and develop specifications.
- Conduct QA/QC and technical reviews of designs.
- Plan and design procedures and equipment for integrated systems factory testing.
- Resolve design comments and prepare design documentation.
Programming Responsibilities:
- Lead programming and configuration team efforts for complex automation and SCADA applications.
- Program, configure, troubleshoot PLCs, RTUs, and HMI systems.
- Test, troubleshoot, deploy, and commission systems.
- Author test and commissioning procedures and reports.
- Develop test equipment and simulation devices.
- Perform factory and field testing.
Maintenance Responsibilities:
- Perform troubleshooting on service calls to existing and legacy system operators.
- Perform hardware and software upgrades and replacements on existing systems.
Managerial Responsibilities – Estimates:
- Conduct client site surveys, inspections, and tours as required.
- Prepare cost estimates and supporting documents for small projects.
- Evaluate and price change orders.
Managerial Responsibilities – Personnel Management:
- Assign technical tasks and coordinate with entry‑level engineers.
- Coordinate tasks with technical staff.
Education and Experience:
- Experience reading electrical and control schematics and plans.
- Experience in control system startup, configuration, and calibration.
- Experience in testing and troubleshooting control systems.
- Experience using basic electrical and machinist hand tools.
- Experience using testing, calibration, or industry‑specific tools and software.
- 3–7 years of experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or higher.
- Associate degree (add 3 years).
- High school diploma (add 5 years).
- Must be a U.S. Citizen

Computer
Skills:
- Experience in computer networks.
- Experience in CAD/CAE software (Visio, AutoCAD).
- Experience in schedule management software.
- Standard office software (Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.).
Certificates and Licenses –
Required:
- Certification in one or more PLC/Automation platform (Niagara N4, Schneider, Rockwell, Siemens, etc.).
- Certification in one or more SCADA platform (Iconics, Ignition, etc.).
Certificates and Licenses – Preferred:
- Design Build Institute of America (DBIA).
- Engineer in Training (EIT) in relevant field.
- Additional certifications across platforms.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- No supervisory responsibilities.
- Regular exposure to computer screens for extended periods; sitting for extended periods; reaching with hands or arms in any direction.
- Finger dexterity for manipulating objects with fingers.
- Ability to listen, understand spoken words, and communicate effectively.
- Reading and understanding written information.

Pay Range$104,000 – $156,000 per year
