Cost Accountant

SUMMARY

A well-established manufacturing company is looking for an experienced Cost Accountant to take ownership of production costing, inventory control, and in-depth cost analysis. This role is central to maintaining accurate WIP records, analysing variances, coordinating stock processes, and supporting month‑end and audit requirements.

• Manage all production accounting activities and ensure robust costing processes
• Verify WIP and reconcile actual WIP to the general ledger
• Analyse material usage, production variances, and cost deviations
• Oversee production stock counts, adjustments, and reporting
• Coordinate ongoing inventory reviews and perpetual stock analyses
• Lead monthly excess and obsolete inventory assessments
• Prepare and support month‑end journals and stock cost reports
• Review standard cost updates and ensure accuracy each month
• Reconcile inventory to the ledger, identify discrepancies, and drive corrective actions
• Analyse consumables, rework, burden, and clean‑out accounts
• Compile reports required for monthly financial close
• Perform risk assessments and recommend cost‑control improvements
• Ensure ERP accuracy through analysis, internal checks, and collaboration with production and inventory teams
• Assist with annual audit processes and monthly stock counts
• Handle additional tasks assigned by the Line Manager or Financial Director

• Minimum 5+ years' experience in a Cost Accounting role
• Strong background in manufacturing (essential)
• Sage experience is advantageous
• Advanced Excel proficiency

• BCom Accounting or related qualification
• Completed CIMA (non‑negotiable)
