A Quantity Surveyor manages all costs relating to projects, from the initial calculations, pre-feasibility to the final agreement and final account statement. Quantity surveyors seek to minimize the costs of a project and enhance value for money, while still achieving the required standards and quality. Many of these are specified by statutory building regulations, which the quantity surveyor needs to understand and adhere to.
A quantity surveyor is involved in a project from the start, preparing estimates and costs of the work. When the project is in progress, quantity surveyors keep track of any variations to the contract that may affect costs and create reports to show profitability.
- Degree or diploma in quantity surveying, or related degree from RICS (Royal institute for Chartered Surveyors.)
- 5-10 years’ experience as quantity surveyor for a mining industry.
- Required to travel for operational site visits (locally and abroad).
- Mine Health and Safety checks completed (medicals, mine induction,etc). This role is subject to a police and credit clearance.
1. Contracts
- Preparing tender and contract documents, including bills of quantities with the client
- Tender terms and conditions review.
- Risk incorporation into tender pricing with estimator.
- Review contract document.
- Contractual correspondence to employer / Client.
- Preparation of amendment documents/ variation orders.
- Identifying, analyzing, and developing responses to commercial risks.
- Assisting in establishing a client's requirements and undertaking feasibility studies.
2. Production
- Scope & measurement work to subcontractors.
- Site progress monitoring and reporting.
- Weekly progress /programme updates.
- Review sub-contractors’ quotations.
- Compile contractual claims.
- Undertaking cost analysis for repair and maintenance project work.
- Payment certificate review as received from Junior Quantity Surveyor.
3. Financial management
- Expedite claims.
- Final account preparation.
- Contract completion financial post-mortem.
- Performing risk, value management, and cost control.
- Undertaking cost analysis for repair and maintenance project work.
- Assisting clients in locating and accessing additional and alternative sources of funds.
4. Administration and reporting
- Monthly cost reports.
- Task / tender specific qualification letter.
- Planning and project schedule.
- Certificate review.
- Monthly site budget review.
- Issue of compensation events and the presentation and agreement with client.
5. Health and Safety
- Understanding the implications of health and safety regulations.
- Ms Projects (Microsoft Office.)
- CCS Candy or Primavera
- Project Management
- Data analytics (Comfortable to work at digital platforms.)
