Our client is seeking an experienced Cost Commercial Lead to join their Johannesburg team, supporting major transport and utilities infrastructure projects. This is an opportunity for a commercially astute quantity surveying professional with strong cost management, contract administration and execution-stage experience across complex infrastructure environments.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare detailed cost estimates, Bills of Quantities and cost plans for major infrastructure projects.
- Provide cost advice throughout the design and construction lifecycle.
- Lead tender and procurement processes, including tender documentation and bid evaluations.
- Negotiate with contractors, subcontractors and suppliers.
- Manage post-contract cost control, including valuations, payments, variations and final accounts.
- Administer contracts in accordance with FIDIC, NEC and JBCC standards.
- Assess contractual claims, extensions of time and variations.
- Prepare monthly cost reports, cash-flow forecasts, variance analysis and Estimated Final Costs.
- Identify cost risks and develop appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Lead value engineering initiatives and identify opportunities for improved project value.
- Support the management, development and growth of the project team.
- Contribute to bids, new business opportunities and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Bachelor's Degree in Quantity Surveying or Civil Engineering.
- Professional Quantity Surveyor (PrQS) registration with SACQSP is mandatory.
- Minimum 10 years' quantity surveying experience within construction, civil or infrastructure projects.
- Strong understanding of commercial management, procurement and construction contracts.
- Proficiency in Dimension X (DIMX), CostX, WinQS and Microsoft Excel.
- Experience with rail, aviation or port infrastructure will be highly beneficial.
- Excellent analytical, negotiation and communication skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and teams simultaneously.
