Smart Start is a successful national network of NGOs and partners that is realising quality, affordable early learning for all children aged three to five. We are achieving this by scaling a network of providers, building a platform for providers, achieving specific ecosystem transformations with governments and partners, and promoting early learning as a priority societal cause.

Purpose of the Role

Smart Start is looking for a self-motivated and driven person who will fulfil the role of being a mentor to our early learning practitioners (Our Smart Starters). The incumbent will inspire and motivate new Smart Starters to start their programmes and problem solve with them as they operate to make impactful and sustainable enterprises.

Key Responsibilities

Smart Start Club Coaches are mentors to our network of early learning practitioners (Smart Starters) who run their own independent preschool social enterprises.

• They license and quality assure all the Smart Start practitioners.
• Build and encourage the Smart Start clubs (networks of Smart Starters).
• Drive and create understanding of and demand for quality early learning and, importantly, coach and develop Smart Starters to gain new skills and capacities.

Qualifications & Experience

• Educated to tertiary level preferable (Community Development degree advantageous). At least a year’s experience in a coaching/mentoring/facilitation role and/or a management/coordinating role.
• Three years’ experience of ECD or a closely related sphere.
• A valid driver’s license and own transport.

Experience in the non-profit and/or development sector.

• Ability to maintain effective quality assurance systems.
• Ability to collect and manage qualitative and quantitative data.
• Ability to manage others effectively, to motivate, to elicit high performance and to facilitate personal and professional development in a supportive way.
• Ability to work independently, problem-solve, be flexible and take the initiative when presented with challenges.
• Ability to build and maintain excellent working relationships with colleagues at all levels of the Smart Start network and beyond, and to work as part of a cohesive and supportive team, including the ability to work effectively with people from different backgrounds.
